Kalyanji (of Kalaynji-Anandji) died.

Normally when one of duo goes, the pair lacks lustre forever. We all know what happened to Shankar-Jaikishen when Jaikishen died. After Salim-Javed split, Javed could make mark in songs, but none of them wrote scripts of quality of ‘Sholay’ or ‘Zanjeer’.

But anyway Kalyanji Anandji had passed their age. Kalyanji was 70.

Kalyanji-Anandji never reached the pick that was enjoyed by OP Nayaar in late 50’s or RD Burman in early 70’s or even mediocre Laxmi-Pyare in 80’s. But they were always there. Not at top, but just below. They were never interested in number game. But kept churning good songs.

‘Saraswatichandra’, ‘safar’, ‘geet’, ‘upkar’, ‘gopi’, bairag’ ‘bluff master’, ‘Johny mera naam’ to later days ‘lawaris’, ‘hera pheri’, ‘mukaddar ka sikandar’ to these days ‘tridev’, Kalyanji-Anandji assured a consistent quality.

One more note, Kalyanji gave independent music before making team with Anandji. That included outstanding songs like 'Tumhe yaad hoga kabhi hum mile the, mohabat ki rahon mein milke chale the', 'neend na mujhko aaye', 'mere dilmein hain ik baat' etc.

So when u hear music diector as 'Kalyanji Virji Shah', dont get confused. It is the same Kalyanji of Kalyanji-Anandji duo.

Yes they were great producing great music. They r not dead thay r alive. Artist never dies.
