Kal raat bohat deir tak meiN jaagta raha
aur sochta raha ke kuch bheid paaoN meiN
kya hey meri zaat ke anaasir ki keemya!
dil chaha ke is andherey meiN kuch dekh paaoN meiN

LogoN sey bhari hui is dunya meiN har taraf
logoN aur insaanoN ka tanaasub hey kis qadar!
mohabbat meiN heiN kis qadar zaroorat ki milawateiN
khaloos kis qadar hey ta’aassub hey kis qadar!
mukhlisi ke daeroN sey aazaadyoN ke baad
zindagi har haal meiN munaasib hey kis qadar!

KahaaN hum sey toot gaey wo bandagi ke silsiley
hum aagahi ke raastoN meiN kis jaga kharrey heiN aaj!
wo waapsi ke raastoN ke dar kahaN pe kho gaey,
be-chaargi ke dasht meiN hum kis jaga parrey heiN aaj!
insaniyat ki imaarateiN to dhey gaeeN par ab bhi hum
darindagi meiN doob kar bhi kis tarhaN kharrey heiN aaj!

MeiN jaagta raha aur sochta raha
phir na-janey kis gharri meri aaNkh lag gai
aur so gaya meiN yuN - apney zameer ki tarhaN!

ik choti si zindagi ki kya qeemat chukaai hey!

azal sey le kar ab talak kai soorateiN mileeN
kirdaar ki magar ab talak taheiN nahi khuleeN
koi dil-fareb si dhun hooN ya mushkil si baat hooN
chakki meiN pis rahaa hooN ya chakki ka paat hooN
mazloom ki sheh-rug hooN ya zaalim ka haath hooN
kisi baadshah ki nasal hooN ya achoot zaat hooN
kuch pataa nahi

Qudrat ki sannaai hooN ya zarroN ka kheil hooN
meiN khud sey koi shajar hooN ya aakaas-beil hooN
kisi man-chaley sanam-gar ka adhoora feil hooN
merey haath hey taqdeer ya meiN us ke zeil hooN
kuch pataa nahi

MeiN jaagta raha aur sochta raha
ke meiN kya tha, meiN kya hooN aur kya banooN ga meiN
jeeney aur mar jaaney ke beech kab tak rahooN ga meiN!
