Kaif honored with house, Rs. 5 lakhs by UP Gov't

is it standard practice that cricketers receive such gifts from government? i thought this was cool…he’s a young guy too. i guess the other guys make enough money as it is

Allahabad: Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif was on Monday presented with the keys of a duplex house and a cheque of Rs five lakh at a function in the Madan Mohan Malviya Sports Stadium here.
State Transport Minister and Samajwadi Party National General Secretary Reoti Raman Singh presented him the keys and cheque.

The Uttar Pradesh Government presented Kaif with the house and Rs five lakh for his outstanding performance in the recently concluded cricket series between India and Pakistan.

The duplex house worth Rs 18 lakh in Chauphataka area here has been constructed by Allahabad Development Authority.

Singh also read out a letter from Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav which lauded Kaif on his brilliant contribution in India’s win over Pakistan and called him the pride of the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh, who is also the local MP, said the people of Allahabad were proud of Kaif.

This is not so much about Kaif's "brilliant performance" but Maulana Mulayam Singh playing again to the Muslim gallery.

A few months back, he almost got the state to observe a holiday on fridays.....

I consider myself a secularist but this vote-bank politics makes me mad.

noor: athletes have to exercise their butts off to keep in good shape and have to practice to keep an edge on other teams, you can't just wake up on the day of match and perform after resting all year long. Nothing comes easy to anyone.

Compared to football stars, cricket stars get pittance. Kaifs and Akhtars of this world deserve all that they get and more.
