Kafirs or corrupt Muslims?

A Maullavi was our co traveler in train. We were four. Our topic started from 9/11, and reached problems in Islam.
I got him for the word ;kafir;. We were curious to know our abode after death. He was anxious not to address us directly but confirmed the thesis of many earlier prophets and religious books and ultimately ayats of quran, that ‘kafirs’ are destined to hell’.

‘What about corrupt Muslims?’ I mean Muslims who do not follow roza or namaz, drink on occasions, (I know many Muslims who do not drink wine, but whisky and vodka are ok, because Islam is silent on this issue.)
So, what is the destiny of such corrupt Muslims? The Maullavi tried to escape this question, and ultimately left it to allah. ‘Only Allh can decide.’ He said.

It is interesting, that for kafis, he was sure of hell, but for corrupt muslims he left the choice to Allah.

If I am not wrong it's in the Quran that non-believers will dwell in Hell, as for corrupt muslims, I think it depends - like if they were hypocrites or not etc etc.

Anyway leave it to Allah ;-)

u cant really say whether a person is corrupt or not....
but if one is really corrupt enuff to fall under the category of 'munafiqeen' then Quran clearly mentions such people to be in the deepest portions of Hell....

Well i think the maulvi was right in a way saying it up to allah(swt) to call someone kafir is treading on dangerous ground. You can only call someone kafir if they clearly are without a doubt.

Also this reminds me of one of the incidents of the sahabah at time of muhammad(saw) one of the quraysh*(non muslim tribe)* became muslim one morning he took the shadaha and in the same afternoon he went to fight jihad in a battle and became shaheed that same afternoon, so it could only takes one action that can be difference between jannah and jahanum allah(swt) knows best!

god trying to buy loyalty of kaffir through intimidation?submit to me
or i will send you to hell sounds too simplistic. it cant be god's words

so your brain says that God should say "whether or not you believe in me, whether or not you follow my rules, you shall always live in Heaven" ???

Assalamu Alaykum,

I think the term Kaafir is not for every non-Muslim, it is reserved for those non-Muslims who at the time of Muhammad (sws) knew and understood well that he was a prophet and Qur’an was the Book of God and yet out of their sheer arrogance and pride refused to believe in him. Therefore, today it is very difficult for us to call anyone Kaafir because it is only Allah who knows if person is rejecting truth out of his genuine problems, or because he understands and just wants to oppose.

As for the fact who enter in Paradise, I think its a misconception amongst Muslims that Muslims will necessarily enter Paradise and others will not. This is not justified from Qur’an, therefore cannot be our Belief. A related reading can be found at http://www.omeriqbal.com/paradise.html.

Comments are welcome.
Best Regards

...erm I dont think so.

ak, i think that islam is silent on the brand, and the corrupt muslims take benefit of this silence, wine is prohibited to them, so they enjoy whisky and vodka, or gin may be.

There is no particular "brand" or "kind" prohibited, its "intoxicants". Can you post the Verse from Quran?

bengun, I think its very clear if you read qur'an and hadith that muslims can go to hell too. Have you not noticed the Qur'an addressing believers, and mentioning Hell to them?

you are absolutely right changezji, you see that intoxicating agent in 7th century arab was sharab, and our corrupt (good may be) muslims take benefit of that illusion.
not only whisky, but many muslims, usually arabs purchase young girls, young muslim girls, for legal reasons marry them in asian countries, like india and pakistan, and later no need to say what life these girls see in arabistan. this is corruption.
problem is that any muslim can easily varify 'hell' for non muslims, but for corrupt muslims, he is has reservations.

What does your brain say?

Is human nature to question God.

And IMHO.

God answers in ones heart.

(whatever religion they were taught)
