Kafir

What is that actual definition of a ‘Kafir’?
Do all non-Muslims come under this category?

hehehe

Kafir can be, for some individuals, a derogatory term - based upon how it was utilized in particular regions such as South Africa. So i think Muslims (and everyone) should be careful of using this term - it can cause quite a bit of offence.

As for who is, or is not, a Muslim...i think that's best left upto Allah to judge. This is precisely how we further disunity amongst the ummah - by focusing upon categorizing each other with superficial labels, so that we can discriminate more readily.

kafir is the same as gentiles

very wrongly perceived....
u need to learn a lot more....

^ am I? can you please correct me. Thanks.

Kufr means to disbelieve.. Kafir is the one who does not believe. who rejects.

A hadith is very helpfull in defining Kufr. Prophet (saw) said that the one who intentionally leaves a prayer is in the state of Kufr.(unblief).

Friend Destino,
Thanks, these are one of the best words I have read in any of religious scriptures,

‘A hadith is very helpfull in defining Kufr. Prophet (saw) said that the one who intentionally leaves a prayer is in the state of Kufr.(unblief).’

Ms Nadia,
I have read many of your posts. You are always busy in defending Islam.
Why so much complexes?

fantoosh,

Check out this prior discussion.

In the first post, there is an article on what is “kaafir”. You can agree or disagree, but its interesting, nevertheless.

:konfused: So an individual who defends Islam has many complexes, but if i were to disparage and attack my religion and its principles - then that would prove that i don’t have any complexes? Interesting logic. Do you apply the same reasoning towards a Christian who defends Chrisitianity, or do you reserve the issue of “complexes” solely for those who happen to be Muslims?

[Linguistically] a Kaafir is the person who covers something. For instance, night is called Kaafiran [covering] because it covers things [with darkness]. The farmer is called Kaafiran, because he covers seeds in the ground.

I am thankful for all genuine information.

So far I was under impression that for Muslims, if you are not with me than you are a Kafir. And it is not my fault.
This word is so frequently used (or misused) in Islamic world, that most of the time not only non-Muslims are deliberately abused, but also Muslims having dislikes have called each other a Kafir.

Yes Ms Nadia, I may call it only complex. And you are not the only one. Many like you are all the time busy in defending Islam. Why? A broad religion must not require defense.
Such chanting I have seen very rare among people of other faiths.
(Do not confuse propaganda with defense!)

defense is needed when there are attacks, i suppose if attacks were decreased, the need to defend would decrease too.

maybe instead of attacking and defending ppl should be inquiring, educating and discussing.

not a huge difference in what info is exchanged, but the nature of the exchange changes.

maybe we should all keep this in mind. also just because a person asks a question which bothers you due to the inquirer's lack of knowledge or predisposition, its not always an attack, just an inquiry...similarly when someone receives an explanation or an answer which goes counter top their hypothesis and predisposition, its not always a defense, rather they are being provided information..and answer to their query.

shabaash carry on now.

I gree with destino here.

Kafir is a term which is completely differnt then calling someone a non muslim. A muslim can be a kafir too.

To reject one command of God makes a person Kafir. Being a muslim and not obaying the commandment of God makes that person Kafir.

As I am a Kafir speaking. I will share with you the Kaffir concept of the word kaffir.

In my thinking the meaning is..one who has not yet accepted the reliigion of Islam.

That is the only meaning I can gist.
