Kabuliwallah by Tagore. I have read it. It is a beautiful and touching story. I also remember watching a black/White bengali movie with subtitles based on the book as a kid.

I kinda remember that there was also a black/white hindi movie on this subject, which had a very popular desh bhakti song.
