I am not a hadeeth scholar, there is plenty of discussion about the methodology applied to consider hadeeth as authentic and its weaknesses. do a search you will find it. I dont need to come up with ‘my way’ to find validity of hadeeth.
although, alignment with what is in quran and common sense may help. do me a favour, go read bukhari and muslim and tell me you find all hadeeth in there satisfactory.

zobia dont you think you are being a little defensive here? anybody has the right to ask for source for a claimed hadith?in fact at the times of sahabis it was customary. granted every thing said appears to be wise in the first post, anyone can question whether it indeed is hadith or not.
you know good words can in that case be passed around as just words of wisdom and nto be attributed to the prophet. Good intentions dont always have a good outcome you know. and the bad outcome here could be that you introduce and/or promote something to a larger audiece, which is falsely attributed to the prophet, even if it makes sense to you.
I mean its a religious version of urban legend or a chain mail, you pass it on, trusting the prson who had sent it to you, and thus take part in spreading it only to find out later it was just a hoax. I suppose when the hadeeth were rejected by compilors they probably had to struggle with the same issue, common sense, cultural norms etc etc passed around but attributed to the prophet to make them seem more important or legitimate.
So, that is why, at minimum a source is helpful, because you can say its in a particular hadeeth complilation.

journey to find the real thing/path/saying should b persistent. i m saying so cuz i remember one mufti saab said dat "nowdays ppl put their makeup hadiths followed by Abu Hurrira (RA) n authentically relates them from sahi muslim n sahi bhukhari on walls of mosquez, n many of us blindly believe them".
so its not the matter of this particualr thread...i jus want ppl to generalize the whole scenario...i mean do we really have knowledge to tell between wats good n bad?

it all depends upon trust
we believe in Quran because we trust Hazoor PBUH
similarly we have trust that these people have done best effort to separate unreferenced ahadees from referenced one
and you know if you say something even correct but Hazoor PBUH didn’t told, you will be the great sinner, so you have to take care of reference , as much as possible and for thoes we have to trust muslims
