just thinking

ok i was reading kinz thread and this questiong pop in my mind

for all the girls who have moved to another country, how often do you visit your parents..for example you move to usa after getting married and your parents are in pakistan. how often do you visit pakistan?

i was chatting with a friend few days back who is in USA. she was telling me that she did not visit pakistan since 2 years because her in laws told her that the air ticket and cost are so much for pakistan so dont go now..go when its your brother wedding.. which is like after 2-3 years. she was telling me that hubby doesnt have any problem me going to pakistan now but mother in law thinks its fazool kharchi

so my question to all the ladies who got married and move to another counry, how often do you visit your parents?

for those living with in laws, did they had any isssue?

I used to listen this song everyday…GOD i used to cry everyday…:(…

Re: just thinking

I think women who come to America from Pakistan , and also working/studying , crave less for Pakistan . Reason being , you are so busy that you hardly get time to think about motherland .

Re: just thinking

i am not married yet but my cousins/anuties who are married and live another country, they all come here in pakistan when their close relatives are getting married and of course after 2-3 years.
recently my cousin got engaged, her sista lives in KSA with her hubby and cousinz family waiting for her k wo 2 yrs baad aa jaye to shadi karain ge.though, her in laws dont live with her and they really want their bahu and beta to visit them.

Re: just thinking

I am fortunate enough to have parents in the same city in U.S as me MasAllah.. but I know my mom doesn't usually go back for 4-5 years because she is soo busy with work and household duties that it almost seems she has become adapatable to being so far.. She calls them all the time but I don't think it's the same.

Re: just thinking

you always say to urself oh il visit everyyear...never happens., nothing to do with ur hubby or in laws, life just gets busy...

Re: just thinking

my aunt goes back to Pakistan (from the USA) at least once a year, sometimes twice a year.

Re: just thinking

We all (we and kids) go to Paksitan every 3-4 years and in b/w we invite my parents and her parents on alternate year. My father is retired from PIA so ticket cost is not a issue for him and we pay for my in-laws.

Inviting them fuilfils the basic need of meeting them, they also get some time out of their routine life and on top of all that, it costs way less to pay just for visa and tickets of couple than what it costs to visit Pakistan (2 adults, 2 kids), taking gifts for everyone and then shopping there to bring gifts for everyone here :)

Re: just thinking

When we were living abroad we used to visit every year...at times more than once an year. But here in Pak my parents and inlaws live in the same city...so i would get like 2 weeks for parents out of our total 2 months break. Now when I'm in pak...living in a different city than parents n in laws, i rarely ever have time to visit....but thankfully they keep visiting us, so its all good.

NOT TRUE, I think of my parents all the time and I miss them A LOT.

I visit Pakistan every year  but then my in-laws are also there, so my husband loves going there too. And I end up staying more at in-laws than with parents :hinna:

Re: just thinking

My mom went back after 6 years because of paper/immigration issues (this was in late 1980s). Since then, she went (with me of course) almost every year until I got married....and hten moved there. There was a 4 year gap while I was in HS but other than that, we went every year.

Re: just thinking

Hats off to girls who come here and dont break down…I would. :crying:

i agree. i am sure how busy i get still i would want to visit my parents at least once a year
