I can tell you that in Germany a mother with small kids is excused from any of the public services until her youngest kid has reached the 3rd grade in school.

They consider bringing up of kids a great public service in itself. The better educated and civilized the kids, the safer the society, :faizy:

dw, thats the way it should be, IMHO. Alas, in NY, there are no longer any "caregiver excusals" - if you're over 18, are not a convicted felon and are of sane mind, then you must serve or at least show up and try to convince a judge that you cannot serve. I'm just LOVING that....I mean we got a letter from my sons' school on Friday that a man was trying to lure a school child into his car that morning...yeah RIGHT I'll hire some babysitter to drop my kids and pick them up.

hsk, you missed the point completely. Of COURSE they'd be fine without me - hubby takes impeccable care of our littles. But is it right that he has to give up his vacation time? And if he is sent on a business trip, we are skrewed...I'd have to take the boyz out of school and bring them with me to court. And you ARE right, my life does not HAVE to revolve around my 4 men...but fact is that it DOES and thats the way I want it to be and thats the way it SHOULD be. IMHO.

It looks like I will be going and praying that it will be done with in a couple of days...
