Exclusive interview with Junoon by “The Times of India”
How did the name Junoon originate?
The story of the way Junoon found it’s name is an interesting one : it
happened in a dream! Salman dreamt one night that an old man came to him
and declared: “Thumhe mauseeqi ka junoon hai..” (You have an obsession
for music). When Salman suggested “Junoon” as a possible name for the
group, Ali Azmat agreed immediately.
The new albums in the pipeline…
Junoon is currently recording their next studio album, which should be
released in May or so. We also have a video (Entitled “Junoon Live at
Central Park, A Tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan”) produced of a concert
that we held at Central Park in New York City last summer. We were invited to perform by the City of New York at a tribute concert in honour of the late Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. ALl the networks have shown interest, and we should have this broadcast in the next month or two as well.
Where does the Junoon team see itself ten years from now?
On the top of the Billboard charts!
What does the Junoon team feel about the Indian Prime Minister’s visit
to Lahore?
Basically, what we were talking about last summer during our maiden tour
of India, is now being said by the politicians of our countries as well.
We think this is a good thing, definitely.
