fantastic jam concert…certainly the most crazy crowd i have seen…when junoon came, people were mad, extremely insane and wildest crowd…management used dogs, guards and even junoonis kicked out “barray” haha…when hnaif raja called the name of junooon, crowd went totally wild …all junoonis started to dance and rushed forward…infact there was no dance floor, but junoonis made dance floor at “nogo area” for abt 1000 people dancing like an insane or crazy people…junoon really rocked the crowd…i have never seen so many headbeagers in 1 concert…i also did headbeaging for abt 50 minutes and still feeling pain in all parts of body…people stood by holding the stage even guards kicked them many times but junoonies did not want to loose any oppportunity to rocked with junooon…junoon started with jazba junoon and the way crowd went wild..oh my god…i have come to believe junoon is the best live performers in the world which can move crowd wtih great passion…salman guitarings were excellent …he was all the time shaking hands with junoonis and making them rocked…jazba junoon waves were even more then wht other artist created…then salman ahmad started guiatrings again, which junnonies could not recognise wht tht song is,but after few seconds he started playign pappu yaar guitars and crowd went WILD WILD WILD WILD…dont think there wwas not a single person who did not dance…salman guitarings were excellent..sound system was prety good…then came khuddi(i think) and it rocked again…then junoon played tara jala and garas baras and both made people WILD WILD…crowd was singing alog with ali in tara jala, for me best song of the concert, fantastic fantastic…gara baRAs made people WILD WILD WILD FROM STAGE TO BACK..for using wild again again ,there is a reason behind beac crowd was dacing in thousands with great passion …there was some rushed scene when ali was “bashed " by any junooni and he gave some extreme galiyan to some of the junooonies…at tht eime guards came up with bulldogs…hahah and the most funny thing was one of my friend zafar(hardcore junooni) kicked the *** of one of thse bulldogs…then junoon came upw with national anthem…and then junoonsang SAEEN and oh boy crowd wnet crazy crazy crazy…i would say there were abt 100 headbeagers on saeen including me and expecially tht 3 junoonies with long hairs standing by holding the stage were wild…crowd was insane insane insane…guitarings vocals were excellent…salman ahmad was in full form…he was playign guitars with extreme control…fantastic…saeen rocked the whole crowd…
it was not enough ,believe me when salman amazing guitarings made people crazy and guess wht tht song was…well ya it was rocking rocking LAL MERI PAT…just want to say 1 thing junoon level of performance was incredibly goooddd…crowd went WILD WILD WILD WILD WILD WILD…even i was feeling very very tired but tht song made abt 3000 people insane..so called dance floor was the place of true headbeagers..it was fantastic…lal meri pat rocked crowd…stage was weak due to junoonies headbeaging…then came dosti…and it made people wild wild…people were shouting like a mad person…drums and tablas made people crazy…but there was a bad scene when one of the junoonies(standing along with me) hit ali with chalias and ali wa likekafi lanti crowd hoo tum log” salman controlled ali..and then they made people sang with them…and then tht fobia of wildness started when played dsoti with great guitars and vocals…oh man crowd went CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY…for me this concert will be remember for long time due to his crazy cray crazy crowd…it was MY 30 concert and MY junoon 12 concert and i think i have never seen such wil crowd in any of junoon or abrar concert…even many big western bands would want junoonies as their fans…it was rocking rocking rocking concert with good sound system and some fantastic guitarings by salman and brain and ali played his guitars very well in tara jala…junoon rocked rocked…most CRAZY CROWD IN THE HISTORY OF PEOPLE…JUNOON RULZ..who eva think junon sucks,it would be better for him ti leave this world…there was a GORACAMERA MAN..i asked “have u ever seen such wild crowd”“”..he replied “you junoonies r crazy and i have never seen such crowd.”…even salman and ali was laughing at the crazyness of crowd…hahaha..fantastic..even ali had to saif “balma bhangra mad karo ,guanay suno” but it was not effective any more beac crowd was WILD

The girls were at the back. Youre right about tabla, they need Aashiq, but John Alec did a good job to cover up for Brian though.

This time, for additional security, there was a brood of trained (supposedly) dogs patrolling the venue, instilling the fear of canine vengeance into the hearts of any potential 'goondas'.
A concert in the backdrop of exploding bombs, attempted assassinations and widespread chaos and disorder is never an appealing prospect. Not to say that Karachi is on the brink of anarchy, but the prevailing situation does seem far from normal. Hence when a recent concert headlined by Sufi-rock peace crusaders Junoon, took place in the port city, there was definitely an air of anxiety surrounding the event.
Yet thankfully nothing untoward took place - nothing exploded, no females were harassed and no riots ensued - a successful concert in Karachi by all counts. Matter of fact, the most unpleasant thing (apart from some of the performances) was the unbearable heat that had not even spared the normally pleasant Karachi night from its wrath. Considering the fragile security situation, apart from the regular frisking at the gate and lathi-wielding security men, this time, for additional security, there was a brood of trained (supposedly) dogs patrolling the venue, instilling the fear of canine vengeance into the hearts of any potential goondas.
Hanif Raja served as emcee in a flaming red shirt seemingly out of a hip-hop video, quite different from his usual suited-booted threads, but with the usual jokes. The first performer he invited on stage was Farah Hasan, an unknown singer by most standards. Though her music was not exactly a Godsend, the lady did have a decent voice.
The second song she did, Sarota Kahan Bhool Aae, is the lead single from her new album. A standard techno-bhangra hybrid it, along with pretty much all of Farah Hasan's brief set, failed to ignite the sentiments of the crowd. Along with her came two pencil-thin dancers, whose choreography, if it can be called that, was woefully off. Another of her 'original' numbers included Thaya, a ditty that sounded suspiciously like it came from A. R. Rahman's recycle bin (though, admittedly, Rahman's number was also a rip-off of a kafi).
Crooner Rahim Shah was up next and without a doubt, his performance was a complete disappointment, as he 'performed' entirely to pre-recorded tunes. If one pays to see a live show, then performers should at least play one live track in their set. But Rahim claimed that he was feeling a little under the weather and hence was unable to sing live. As one observer venomously commented, "if he was sick, he should have stayed home and gotten some rest."
To make matters worse, Rahim hardly did any of his old numbers, including the ubiquitous but evergreen Ghum, opting instead for cuts off his new record, Pyaar Naheeh Milta. If he keeps this up, he'll have little hope of finding love, or whatever it is he's looking for.
When Ahmed Jehanzeb took the stage, one finally prepared oneself to listen to live music. The long-haired popster has been out of the market for quite a while, seldom performing live and with few videos in regular rotation. But it was good to see he was still in demand as the crowd showed their first real signs of life as he kicked off with Eik Bar Kaho Tum Mere Ho.
Admittedly, when Jehanzeb did the dreamy Tu Jo Naheeh, it had an altogether different affect in the open air and lush green lawns of the Maritime Museum. One just wished it had been done entirely live, as it seemed he was mixing DAT with live playing. But playing the song live with the generic backing band was a tall order, since the track is wholly lifted from German ambient-techno outfit Ayla.
When Junoon appeared on stage, the audience roared, to the front and it was impressive to see that after all this time, despite all the water that has flowed under the bridge, these guys can still pull a crowd. Salman Ahmed started off the show with his usual harangue, asking the crowd if they had the jazba and the junoon. This led to the song Jazba-e-Junoon.
The group thanked the crowd for turning up to the show despite the delicate security situation and then proceeded to plough through a set that mixed classics (Khudi, Sayonee) with newer hits (Pappu Yaar, Garaj Baras). Apart from all matters music, the group has also been nominated for the SAJA awards for their documentary, The Rock Star and the Mullahs.
The sound mixing left a lot to be desired, but that is now an acceptable variable at local live shows as we are not the most professional of people. And though Junoon did rock the crowd, they seemed to slip up at times, though only those with finely tuned ears or us troublesome music critics managed to notice.
Another oddity was the line-up. Though one is all for artistic diversity, putting together Farah Hasan and Rahim Shah in the same bracket as Junoon was like asking Britney Spears to open for Led Zeppelin (any analogy between the local and foreign artists is purely coincidental). But overall, let's hope this concert augurs well for live shows. Though it isn't confirmed, one has a feeling the doggies had a major role to play in the concert's success.
