LAHORE: Pakistan has pulled out its women’s hockey team from the Junior Women’s Asia Cup, to be held in India later this month, citing injuries to the players.
“It is with deep regrets that we are constrained to withdraw the participation of Pakistan women’s hockey team from the event. The withdrawal is necessitated in view of injuries of serious nature sustained by the players during the course of their hectic training on the synthetic field,” said Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary general Musarrat Ullah Khan here on Tuesday.
He said the injury problem was compounded due to fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan. It was rendered practically impossible to send the team completely beleaguered. “It may be added that some selection of players with concealment of age factor created serious problems. Moreover, the procedural formalities of Government clearance were not fulfilled by some of the players belonging to departments and also did not provide the requisite surety bond prescribed by the Government,” he concluded.
