it will be interesting to see the lotas of Q league jumping from the sinking Titanic and taking refuge in oppsotion parties pretty soon. Kabir wasti for the first time spoke against the president which is the first clear sign of extreme disarray in Q (lota) league. Rest will follow the suit pretty soon...

Also happening throughout June 2007.
**PPP links tickets to Benazir’s birthday celebrations, anti-govt drive **
Only those PPP leaders and workers will be awarded tickets to contest the next general elections who actively take part in the birthday functions of Benazir Bhutto and the anti-government movement. This was announced by the PPP Secretary-General Jehangir Badr while addressing a press conference at the party office on Thursday. Haji Azizur Rehman Chan, Zakaria Butt, Munir Ahmed Khan, Samiullah Khan and Akbar Khan were also present on the occasion. He said the party was considering tickets for those party leaders and workers who were taking an active part in rallies against the current anti-government drive and those who would take part in Benazir Bhutto’s 54th birthday celebrations in June. **He said the leaders and workers who had not taken part in party functions would not be considered for party tickets. “They will also be replaced,” he added. **
**Jehangir Badr said there would be month-long birthday celebrations in June and functions would be held at district, tehsil and UC level. “**The PPP believes in democracy and its struggle is not for power but for the restoration of real democracy,” he said. “All opposition parties, including the MMA, have the support of the PPP.” Badr said the PPP would come to power with the help of ballot instead of bullet and would not change its traditions by supporting a military ruler. He asked the government to allow the national leadership to take part in the forthcoming elections without which the process could not be termed fair. He hoped the MMA would take a decision about the NWFP and Balochistan governments in the next few days. Later, Jehangir Badr and other party leaders cut a cake to launch functions for Benazir’s birthday celebrations.

Yup, no wonder the people are not coming out onto the streets in the numbers you would expect to demonstrate in favour of her or any other political parties.
But then again the opposition leaders are busy eating cake and making deals :)

**Presidential reference hearing adjourned till Monday
**
The 13-member full court bench of the Supreme Court Friday adjourned hearing of the constitutional petition of the Chief Justice of Pakistan and other petitions against the presidential reference till Monday. According to some reports, Justice Khalilur Rahman Ramday said that lawyers have completed their arguments and the decision would be announced shortly.
It does seem that June is the month for important decisions.

Good news soon, says Musharraf
**** President says judicial and political crises to be over in a few days ****
President General Pervez Musharraf said on Friday the people would soon hear good news regarding the current judicial and political crises and asked the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) to concentrate on the forthcoming general elections. Musharraf said this to parliamentarians and federal ministers during separate meetings at his Parliament House chamber. “The prevailing judicial and political crises in the country will be resolved in a few days and the parliamentarians and PML workers should concentrate on the forthcoming general elections,” Musharraf said, adding, “The ongoing drama will end itself very soon and there is nothing to worry about it.” The president told the parliamentarians that the PML and its allies should forge unity and shun their petty political differences before the polls. He asked them to reach to the people and inform them of the government’s performance so that the PML and its coalition partners could secure majority votes in the elections. Those who called on President Musharraf included Federal Minister for Population Welfare Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain, Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Raza Hayat Hiraj and MNAs Sheikh Waqas, Riffat Javed Kahloon, Mazhar Qureshi and Bilal Virk.
“There is nothing to worry about the prevailing tension and all the ruling parliamentarians should defend my policies and agenda during electioneering in their respective constituencies,” sources quoted Musharraf as saying to the parliamentarians. The president told them that the election schedule would be announced soon after the passing of the federal budget by the National Assembly. He urged all legislators to participate actively in the budget session. The parliamentarians briefed the president about the problems of their constituencies and he assured them that their issues would be resolved. Online adds: The president told the parliamentarians that they have to play a vital role in eliminating terrorism and extremism from Pakistan. “You should take the people on board against terrorism and extremism. We have to ensure the success of moderate forces in the general elections,” he said. Musharraf said that he would increase his interactions with the people and continue to address public meetings.
Re: June 2007: Will be a decisive month for Pakistan.
yar..original plan was to indict and fire Justice Iftikhar in a week before Justice Bhagwandas even came back from his tour...ab agr wohi log yeh kahain kay the drama will be over in a few days..how credible is that? Plus, if we still cant learn from experience that Musharraf is anything but a man of his words,, toh phir to allah he hafiz hai hamara.

[quote=“Aalsi, post:49, topic:162252”]
Even military-hater Ayaz Amir’s has commented on Aalsi’s great analysis.
But the political parties, victims of confusion or expediency, lag behind. They still have a role to play but only if they can bring themselves to adopting a clear, unambiguous stand regarding Musharraf’s ‘reelection’. And to be of any use, they must do this now, in the next 20-30 days, rather than wait for Sep/Oct when it might already be too late.
[
Ayaz Amir wrote that on 1 June.
Now it is 10 June.
So based on his prediction something must happen in next 10-20 days now or else it will be too late - for the anti-Musharraf lot.](“http://www.dawn.com/weekly/ayaz/ayaz.htm”)
Re: June 2007: Will be a decisive month for Pakistan.
so wait..one day Mush plays with the emotions of his embattled lot by saying the drama will be over in a few days, and the next day his law minister holds a press conference announcing we will file a new reference…must be annoying to be a mush fan these days.
Re: June 2007: Will be a decisive month for Pakistan.
June 2007 does seem to be the month where the American’s are pushing for BB to stand shoulder to shoulder with the President-General. :jhanda:
US spurs move for Musharraf-PPP deal
Accelerating efforts aimed at ‘deal’ between President Pervez Musharraf and the ‘liberal political forces’, the Bush administration has decided to send another ‘emissary’ to Islamabad to join Assistant Secretary Richard Boucher. US Deputy Secretary of State, John Negroponte will arrive here on Friday to hold talks with President Musharraf and leaders of PPP as well as PML and other politicians along with Boucher to help form a broad-based government of liberal political forces after next general elections to counter the forces of extremism. Boucher, who will remain in Islamabad till June 17, spent a busy Wednesday in Pakistani capital meeting Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Muhammad Farooq and Foreign Secretary Riaz Muhammad Khan. http://www.nation.com.pk/daily/jun-2007/14/index1.php
