I don't know about Junaid.

However, I do know that another famous convert, Yousaf Islam (aka Cat Stevens) does get money from his album sales (or whatever) but he donates it to charity. I remember he also faced this dilemma and there was some info on it on his website. And finally, he concluded that he would not use it for personal use.
