these bazaars r very popular in pak (khi).. has anyone been there?..whats it like? what kind of things do u get there?
Green grocery, cheap clothes and other household kinda things. Its pretty similar to flea-markets here in the US, though less organized and little over-sight. I dunno if they have those in Canada.
jumma/hfta/itwar/mangal/budh almost har din ke bazar hotay hayn pak mein...
the small ones sell sabziaan phal waghera while the big one sell sabziaan, phal, gosht, (murghi, machee), chawal, daal, kitchen ka saara saamaan, kapray, jootay, second hand books, carpets, parday, bedsheets, ghar ka samaan, ladies samaan jewelry chooriyaan waghera....EVERYTHING...juma bazaar mein takreeban sab kuch milta hay....
usually thry r cheaper than the normal bazar, it also depends on the area...for example, in karachi defence wala itwar bazar is more expensive than for example gulshan wala itwar bazar...
i miss going to itwaar bazar every weekend with papa :(
landa bazaar mein second hand chesain milti hayn usually imported...clothes, shoes, kambal, carpets, parday, bed sheets, leather ka saman, woollen coats etc etc...so if u look properly u can find stuff that is good for very cheap...but only if u r upto using second hand stuff....
Great info irem…itna to mujhay karachi main rehte huay nahin pata tha ![]()
Yes, i believe the primary difference between the two is that in jumma bazar you get mostly first-hand stuff at a lesser price; whereas in a lunda bazaar you get imported second-hand stuff, again at a lesser price.
I used to get a lot of books and Naunehal, Tot-batot from them waisay
oh well i also used to buy books from Juma bazar …ahh i cant tell how much i miss pakistan ![]()
irems post sums it all up :--)
jumma bazar: flear market
lunda bazar: thirft store/Goodwill etc etc
my folkz used to do all groceries from jumma bazaar. anyone remember the ones they used to have in defence? it used to be in phase 2 then it moved down further south towards sea view somewhere.
jumma bazars were popular till friday was still a holiday. after the weekend was changed to match the western world (back in 95-96) and friday was made a working day, itwaar bazaar become more popular.
thanks for the info everyone : )
Faisal, you are right. Flea markets are like those Jumma bazaars and are very popular in Canada. Now, you can also get fresh sugar cane juice (gunne ke juice) etc. and lots of Pakistani/ Indian stalls are selling very traditional stuff and "NO TAX" and "BARGAINING" are very attractive features too. There are 3-4 in Mississaga area.
