JUI & JI are offshoots of Jamiat ulma e Hind. Maulana Madni pioneered JUI while Maulana Maudoodi formed JI, both were vehemently opposed to Jinnah and the concept of Pakistan as defined by PML and sided with Hindu dominated Congress.
As Pakistan fell under military dictatorships, they found their best allies in our religious leaders namely JI and JUI both provided philosiphical, idealogical and street power to the past dictators. Take Al Badr and Al Shams in East Pakistan how they collaborated with the army in killing thousands of muslims. When Zia arrived with his manifesto, it was JI who provided him with the politcal platform and idealogical support. Once the Ruskies invaded Afghanistan and uncle sam decided to lead the Jihad, JUI was the lead singer and were rewarded handsomely in financial and political terms.
There is financial corruption and then there is political and religious munafiqat (form of corruption). Since our political establishment refuses to declare what happened during the Afghan jihad (??), there is no talk of financial wheeling and dealing with the mullas which included Maulvi Diesel, Sam, Qazi and rest of the lot. If anyone is interested infinding more about the web of our Afghanistan escapade I would suggest reading Ahmed Rashid's Jihad or taliban, both are excellent books.
Did you know there cases of murder registered against Liaqat Baloch and Hafiz Butt in Lahore? Both of these goons were asociated with JTI thunder squad and are responsible for the deaths and injuries of many innocent Punjabi students who dared to raise their voice against the fanatical and tyrannical policies of JTI of Punjab.
As they say back home, iss Hamam mai sub he nangay hain....and the bigger the belly, bigger their appetite to eat more.....
