Judging others

i have noticed this tendency amongst certain individuals in this Forum… now don’t anyone send me hate pm’s, please, my Inbox is filled up already with the last batch. Thanks, i am still trying to going through all the wonderful hate pm’s i have received so i appreciate it but i don’t need any more right now. i have noticed this tendency that, if one appears to sound even a slightly bit self-critical of Muslim cultures, that person is immediately labelled as a ‘self hating Muslim’ or a ‘kufr’ or, at the kindest, someone who is being manipulated by a western or Zionist agenda. Why do we judge each other so harshly? Why can’t we leave the judging up to Allah? Is He not the best judge? Or are we trying to imply, that somehow He is not because we want to usurp that position of casting judgements? Don’t we realize how divisive this all is … just imagine, for a second, everything that Muslims achieved in Andalusia, in the ancient universities of Baghdad, in the minarets and libraries of Spain, Toledo, and Cairo, imagine al Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina, Omar al Khayyam, al Ghazali, Ibn Rushd, Ibn Khaldun writing away in their study rooms, discussing philosophy, trigonometry, astronomy, poetry with their peers… spending nights discussing the movements of the stars and planets, trying to solve mathematical equations against the smoky fires by their tents that they pitched in the desert, imagine the lives each of these Muslim scientists/thinkers/philosophers left… pick up Ibn Battuta’s volumes on his travels from Morocco to Makkah, read his descriptions - they literally carry you away to another mental world. They weren’t obsessed with defining and categorizing each other and imagine how much they accomplished.

What has become of our 21st century state that we continue to divide ourselves ? If you REALLY, i mean REALLY think about it - it’s pretty sad because the only ones we are hurting, are ourselves and the future of our ummah. If someone criticizes a Muslim culture, such as for example Saudi Arabia’s or Iran’s, that does NOT signify that that individual is anti-Muslim, or, Nauzubillah, a kufr! Leave the judging up to Allah and let’s worry about ourselves… one of the greatest jihads is self-improvement.

There i’m done.

Sister, I am speechless…All I can say is, if you ever disagree with me on any issue, please do so freely…And I promise never to send you hate mail either…

:wsalam:

P.S. If you capitalize your 'I’s, your semantics would be perfect…

aw.

Thank you, Lajawab. On these public Forums i don’t mind disagreeing with anyone, as long as it is done respectfully. Infact, one of the sweetest things has got to be - when someone disagrees with you, but s/he expresses the disagreement in the softest of words. i think there is something so refined, cultured, - a sense that this person possesses such confidence to be able to articulate their disagreements without stooping ever to the level of insulting others - there is something so beautiful about that. A humble, respectful manner of talking to others - that’s wonderful.

lolz :hehe: thank you for the promise of not sending me hate mail. phew i know you will keep your promise.

LOL. rotfl i stopped doing that about a year ago, maybe a little less. i realize it’s not grammatically correct! i don’t know why, i just prefer it this way. Actually i knew someone who used to write like that, everything was grammatically perfect except for the capitalization of the i’s, and i thought it was very weird at first too. Once i started it though, i liked it - so now i keep it. i know it’s weird :~/

I agree with you but i think it works both ways. I mean if you criticise or speak your mind about religious issues you are considered a bigot. Another term very loosely used is mullah. I am still in dilemma whether to use it for negative attitude or positive.
