There should be no compromise with Mushrraf because he is an illegal president & he should never be given any legal cover whatsoever. He should be prosecuted for treason as its laid out in the Constitution under article 6th…

Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges
Thursday, 28 February , 2008, 12:48
Islamabad: In a major climb down, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has sent a message to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chief Asif Ali Zardari that sacked judges of the higher courts can be reinstated provided they do not hear the cases against him, said an official privy to the developments.

The olive branch to the PPP, which is discussing details of government formation with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N), has apparently come in the form of a message conveyed through a common friend.

“The presidency is ready to restore the judges provided they don’t sit on benches hearing cases against the President,” said the top government official. He said the presidency has also suggested that judges appointed by Musharraf after last year’s November 3 emergency would be accommodated in the same positions or transferred to government positions usually held by serving judges.

“Musharraf has also agreed to forego powers of sacking parliament and appointing services chiefs,” the official told IANS, adding that in return he wants an assurance that no impeachment move would be tabled.

On Wednesday, in a rare show of strength, the PPP, PML-N and the Awami National Party (ANP) and independents challenged Musharraf to accept his defeat. The PPP won 88 seats, the PML-N 66 and the ANP 10 in the elections. Further, 27 independents have expressed their willingness to join the coalition. The Musharraf-backed PML-Quaid could only win 39 seats.

According to the official, Zardari has not directly refused the options given by the presidency but said he would discuss this with his partners, particularly Sharif, who has been saying Musharraf is not acceptable under any circumstance.

In 1999, Musharraf as army chief overthrew Sharif’s elected government and a year later sent him into forced exile to Saudi Arabia. Sharif managed to return in November to lead his party in the national elections held last week.

The newly formed coalition has apparently acquired two-third majority in the Parliament required to impeach the President. “If he (the President) refuses to step down, the coalition has the option to impeach him,” Sharif told reporters after Wednesday’s meeting in Islamabad.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

^^^^

I would call it a last ditch attempt to save his kursi at any cost...proving once again that he does not stand for any principles...and his one point agenda is to save his kursi at any cost...disgusting indeed...

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

^^ This man ( Musharaf) is ready to lick his own spitt in order to stay in power. I wonder his "Scum-on-Earth" remark is still valid or...

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Oh, wait is that true? Now he is giving offers to Zardari. Another great example of his u-turns. The system he once heavily opposed is becoming a threat to him and his kursi, so that he echos what was first priority to PPP and PML-N. So much for his sincerity to his given words and to our nation.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Just the way Musharraf is seeming to be a hostage in this situation every day, I'm pretty sure these 'democratic' forces will hold the nation hostage soon, again! God bless Pakistan's fate, a nation which has repeatedly proven it doesn't know its own good...

Musharraf shouldn't lick his spit as per hanibal, he should spit in disgust and leave the thankless on their own...

He should accord himself a grand ceremony like the Army did on his retirement, make a big, arse-thrashing fact-revealing speech and leave, for the sake of his supporters who want to see him prosper and the sake of his family and self, not for Pakistan, because whether he stays or not, the opposing evil scavenging forces will not let him contribute for Pakistan...and would continue hounding him for selfish motives.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Thanks to Musharraf you still have a country to live in. iGive credit to Musharraf for stopping USA to bombing Pakistan back 2001 to stone age....if they did you would been living somewhere in refugee camp.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

There is no negotiation with Musharraf. There is only the hang mans noose for treason.
Khuda Hafiz Mushy Uncle. Your time is coming.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

LOL, same old line!

As if BB or NS would have sided with AL-Qaeda

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

After 9 years you are complaing people will not let him 'contribute' to Pakisatn?? LOL, the excuses get more desperate every day

He has 'prospered' in many ways since 99. He will have many billions to live on once he is kicked out, if he is not thrown in jail

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

You said it. The fact that he now seems ready to restore CJ Ift (who he recently referred to as a third rate person, scum of the earth etc.) and other deposed judges (albeit under certain conditions) and give up his extra powers under article 58 (2b) just shows how desperate he is to hold on to his kursi

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Yaar Caesar I am not against Musharraf for the sake of it. Hence I would like him to leave the scene with dignity. I am also against impeaching Mush simply because the people impeaching him (Zardari and NS in particular, both crooks themselves) are no saints themselves and have essentially committed the same crimes in the past that we now associate with Mush. I supported Mush initially even though I do not believe in military dictators as a matter of principle because he came across as a progressive individual, someone who wanted to move the country forward but the tide has clearly turned against him. With the recent election result it's clear now that the people of Pakistan want a change of direction. Mush unfortunately has been acting more and more like a dictator since March 2007. And believe you me my position would not change one iota if these elected representatives break the constitution in future (i.e. impose emergency etc.) or trample on judiciary or media but I would like to see real power given to the people of Pakistan. They alone should have the power to decide via successive elections who they want to govern them and if the people they elect turn out to be incompetent or corrupt they must be prosecuted by the judiciary and not the military. For sure our politicians will make mistakes in future because till now unfortunately we do not have strong institutions or leaders of the calibre of Mahatir etc. but the process must not be halted. The military should have no business meddling in political affairs. If we had a strong and independent judiciary in Pakistan the crisis of 1999 could have been resolved peacefully. The supreme court would have reinstated Mush as COAS, sent NS home and ordered fresh elections in say 3 months with an interim set up taking over the affairs of the state until then. There was no need to break the constitution or dismiss the National and Provincial assemblies IMO.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Very nice post and i agree 100%.......Pakistani's forget their past fast, lying at the doors of Bankruptcy, begging IMF's hand to save them from a sinking vessel, & they were saved. Now they want to throw the same person off the cliff. But i disagree that he should leave, he still has much role to play.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

What does Musharraf fear if he has nothing to hide? Or does he?

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

what a turn around, this same guy called the Chief Justice of Pakistan “the scum of the earth” a few days ago and now he is all for compromise with them. Not for the sake of Pakistan but his kursi, Proves my point once again.

Desperate tactics by the dictator to save his illegal kursi.

Grtee dewar koh eik aur dhakka. :jhanda:

In the final analysis I would like him to leave Pakistan peacefully and lets put this nightmare behind us and move forward.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Can you imagine a newer NRO by the judges…for the judges :rotfl:

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Agreed this guy is the biggest scum of the earth, he destroyed the progress in Pakistan that we made under Musharraf over the last 7 odd years.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

I agree with you, Dogar is like that. After all he got his pay in form of a huge loan at very attractive rates within days of becoming the chief peon to the illegal president.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

I don't know if this piece of journalistic coup is even true, to be worth discussing. It is so anonymous in its references that it can be denied 100% without a problem. Not worth wasting our mental calories. All the stock answers and mocking is already given above in the replies.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

So then on the same token, I'm sure you also believe that Mr. Zardari should be arrested and extradited to Switzerland immediately, so he can stand trial there, and the new, democratic Pakistani government should fully cooperate with the Swiss investigation.

Re: Musharraf offers olive branch - compromise on judges

Is Mr. Zardari wanted in Switzerland? Last time I checked the case in Switzerland was dropped after Mushrraf issued NRO & the GoP is not perusing the case. As for Mushrraf, he is traitor who committed treason not once, but twice, and even admitted that what did was illegal. May I remind you that if you break and laws and do illegal things you go to jail?
