Violent mob beats Federal State Minister, Tariq Azeem
Updated at 1400 PST
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz was stopped by the security officials from leaving the Election Commission office, as the situation outside further deteriorated, when the Federal State Minister, Tariq Azeem was mobbed by the violent crowd and subjected him to severe torture.

Earlier, the newsmen outside the Election Commission office were violently tackled and subjected to shelling, which further deteriorated the situation.

Later when the Punjab chief minister’s limousine came out from the Election Commission office, the journalist rushed to stop his vehicle for recording their protests against the police targeting them, but his driver speeding the car ran over the toes of a journalist, which once again infuriated the newsmen.

Thereafter, when the Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz’s car started coming out of the building an explosion occurred and the security officials signaling his car to stop got the prime minister alighted from the car and hurriedly took him back inside the Election Commission office.

After some time, when the Minister of State, Tariq Azeem came out of the Election Commission office, he was surrounded by the enraged journalists and thrashed. The security officials rescuing him from the violent crowd packed him up in a pickup and sent him away from the scene.

On the other hand, the journalists have announced boycotting the prime minister’s Iftar party scheduled today.

Not good at all.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

They're all acting like bunch of high school kids. Time for these people to grow up.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

Lawyers were threatening to burn down the supreme court in July if CJ was not restored by the Free Judiciary. Now that the Free Judiciary has thrown the case out against President Musharaf and allowing the President to stand again, these lawyers are going on rampage and acting like thugs.

God Bless Pakistan. God Bless President Musharaf. God Bless Free Judiciary. :jhanda:

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

Absolutely true!

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

These are serious matters and should be taken seriously. Its good that CJ took somoto notice of his own thrashing I wish he take notice of this too (I dont have hope though as beating of Wasim Sajjad, Malik Qayyoum, Qasuri and Naeem Bukhari in the premises of court went “un noticed”)

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

GOOOAAALLL!!!!

Lawyers 2 - Government 20 hospitalized, 100 badly injured and counting.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

government ministers n officials are corrupt n have abused their powers badly. they deserve everything thats coming their way…including some serious chittrol and thuday… :k: … :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

it is not strange that ministers are being targeted by the people to vent their anger against Musharraf. a few days back the interior minister Sherpao was assulted by the people while he tried to join the funeral of the late maulana Hasan Jan. people threw anything they could their hands on at him. as a result he could not join the services and had to leave like that.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

The "people"? Lawyers and journalists are just one very small segment of the populace.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

And don't govnt ministers get any security? What were they doing when Tariq Azeem was getting mobbed?

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

Well, the beating didn't look very bad. It was only couple of slaps. They are robbed Pakistan enough so couple of slaps are not too bad. I think every polititians should get couple of slaps a day by common people every year. It will keep things in perspective. I can wait to slap BB and Mush along with others.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

Except these weren't common people. These were journalists, lawyers and opposition political workers.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

may be they joined the crowd for some ‘badlay’? :hmmm:

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

That proves how much people Pakistan love Mushrrafs regime. His chamchas are getting beat up in bizars by public. :D

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

they are part of the people, aint they? when was the last time every single person rose against any ruler.
oh, and in that sherpao incident common folks were involved. the journalists and lawyers were not the majority of the people there.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

The common people have not risen in support of lawyers and their agenda. They have done so before in Pakistan, but not this time. Doesn't mean every person has to rise up, but it has to be more than 1 or 2 professions fighting for their own self. this is not a mass movement at all.

And mullahs were there in the sherpao incident. We all know about their harkatay.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

The entire nation is watching this. They see educated men pulling federal ministers out of cars and slapping them around...what do you think they'll want to do?

Not that they don't deserve it. If the so-called "free" judiciary that everyone is going on about (really, I don't see a free judiciary - I must have blinders on), can't punish them for their crimes, then maybe getting a couple of public slaps wont be so bad especially when they're ordering military and police to brutally beat up reporters and lawyers and protestors.

But this is not how progress will be made. This is just going to accelerate the situation, and now with the free (relatively) press, Pakistanis are seeing what's going on. This is just going to grow. Its been festering and growing for the past few months. When Musharraf announces he's going to continue for X more years, there will be public protests, and violent too. Things keep going the way they are and I wouldn't be surprised at a civil war.

I mean we have the "jihaadis" with nothing to do with their time. They're just goign to pounce on this.

And bullcrap with this banning of private TV channels. It all gets put on youtube. You don't think people have internet access now in Pakistan? People are probably on youtube right now, if they're not getting the channels illegally.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

Pakistan will self destruct. Then the Afghanis will invade Pakistan and have an endless supply of concubines and slave-men to work on their poppy farms.

Re: Journalists thrashed senator Tariq Azeem the info minister.

I can’t believe those who were supporting a free judiciary and rule of law are actually applauding this kind of thuggery and violence. That fact is just as shameful as these acts of violence by the lawyers.
