Jordan anyone?

Any one been to Jordan here? Which sights to see in Amman? How long does it take from Amman to Petra?

Any nice eateries?

Re: Jordan anyone?

I went in November, loved it.

Not much to see in Amman itself to be honest, it's just a city but with no real tourist attractions apart from a couple of mosques and the Citadel ( but even they aren't worth making a specific trip for)

Amman to Petra is a three or four drive. We stayed three days in Petra and Wadi Rum, then travelled to Aqaba, three days at the Dead Sea - Israel and Jordan sides, and then the last day in Amman.

Have a lovely trip.

Re: Jordan anyone?

We went a few years ago, absolutely loved it. We stayed in Amman for a day only, didnt do much there. Drove to Petra [dont remember exactly how long it took but 3-4 hours sound about right, as Brit Chick said]. Spent 2 days there and then drove to Jerusalem, stopping at the Dead Sea along the way. On our return, we went to Kerak and then to Madaba for a few days and then back to Amman. Also stopped in one of Wadis..dont remember its name, Maybe it was Wadi Rum, or Wadi Musa or something else. Of all the Arab countries Ive visited (Saudi, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Palestine], I liked the people in Jordan the best! Dont remember any specific eateries, plenty of restaurants everywhere and never had any problem with that…except for a restaurant in Kerak that had scammed us --when we came home and saw our credit card bill we realized they had charged us twice, ended up costing us almost $200 for lunch for 5! We thought maybe it was a mistake on their part, but someone told us it is a common scam in some places :smack: But other than that, we had a wonderful time and would love to go back again one day [and only pay in cash!]

Re: Jordan anyone?

I came back 3 weeks ago LOL.

@ Britchick - the citadel and roman theatre are awesome and if you stop at Amman then it is a must see. To see the main sites might take less than a day.

@ midnight eyes - I sadly missed Kerak.

My journey was full or problems. I had a fly to Heathrow which was delayed because it was foggy although sunny in the North. So i missed the flight to Amman but got out on another flight. I picked up my hire car and then could not find my hotel arriving 3am. It was snowing there too. The weather in Manchester was better than Amman and London LOL.

In morning i drove to Petra and the roads had iced up before Wadi Musa. Very very dangerous and a bus had slipped. I saw soem of Petra in the afternoon and then in the morning. I walked to high place of sacrifice first day and next day to Monastery. Then i went to Aqaba. The next day I spend at wadi Rum and then drove to Wadi Dana where i stayed 2 nights. I then drove up the Dead Sewa Highway - seeing Lots Cave, Bethany Beyond the Jordan and then into Amman for 2 nights.

Near Bethany Beyond the Jordan i took a walk in some formlad and a guy in shalwar kameez approached me. He spoke to me in Arabic and i replied in my basic Urdu. He was a Baloch from Quetta who lived there for 60 years. He had not been to pakistan for 40 years.
