Strange similarity between South India and Sindh. In Sindh, traditional customs which involves getting money from groom are from groom’s side (groom’s sister /cousin getting money). There is this ganth kholana rasm in Sindhis and for opening the knot, groom gives money to his sister(s).

Interesting! In my community when the girl gets married, a relative of the bride ex: sister, cousin or brother accompanies the bride to the in-laws house for upto a month. The rationale behind this is that the new bride may not know anybody and may be shy or over-whelmed. Also, she will have a familiar face to confide in if necessary. The relative will also get an idea about the bride’s new family/extended family and can see if she is being treated fine. Do you have such traditions in your place?
