Joota Chhupai

What is the origin of this customs? I mean which communities follow this.

Traditionally, Sindhi wedding didn’t have this custom, but it got popularity after watching this in movies like ‘Hum aap ke hain kaun’.

Re: Joota Chhupai

I want to know origin of all the wedding customs.Joota chupai is common in punjabi weddings and there a lot of baytuki rasmain besides that .

Re: Joota Chhupai

like what kind of be-tukki rasmen?

I think Joota Chupai is also popular and followed in North India.

Re: Joota Chhupai

Yes deewar of any age sometimes touching the knee would do the job.

Re: Joota Chhupai

Re: Joota Chhupai

Re: Joota Chhupai

Nope. First saw in in the above mentioned movie.

Re: Joota Chhupai

Is there any custom in South through which bride’s sisters / friends get money from groom. There is also a custom of stopping groom at bed room door and get entry tax :hehe:

Re: Joota Chhupai

Ha Ha. In south those functions are more serious without the sangeet and dancing. The stopping groom custom is also not there atleast in my state. As for getting money, the only way to get money from groom(brother/cousin) is to join in the welcome aarti. I made 300 rupees as a kid that way when I stood in for my cousin as a sister since he had no sisters.

Re: Joota Chhupai

Strange similarity between South India and Sindh. In Sindh, traditional customs which involves getting money from groom are from groom's side (groom's sister /cousin getting money). There is this ganth kholana rasm in Sindhis and for opening the knot, groom gives money to his sister(s).

Re: Joota Chhupai

no idea about South India. i've had almost non-existent exposure to Southerners.
