Jobs in UAE

If you were looking for work in Dubai or any other middle eastern region…where would you begin your search?

How would you determine whether or not the compensation package being offered is competitive or not?

Re: Jobs in UAE

Bayt.com .. its the largest online job search portal and I know those people personally , they have most of the top employers as their clients ..

you can also approach some of the Recruitment agencies and register with them , companies like Clarendon Parker etc (there are many ) specially have consultants that look for international talent for specific jobs .. once you are put in contact with them , they keep you informed of opportunities ..

Look at the Appointment pages of the newspaper. The two major newspapers , Gulf news and Khaleej times .. both do them and some of the bigger companies spend money advertising jobs that might be of interest.

If you are interested in specific companies , go to the company websites and register yourself as a candidate , alot of multi nationals like Unilever , HSBC , IBM etc they recruit directly through their candidate pools ..

How do you benchmark the salary? Thats easy but will take a bit of time ...
- some large international recruitment companies do salary surveys regularly .. Bayt does them too , if you request consultants you are talking with about jobs , they will forward you their latest survey reports.

  • Compare various jobs on online adverts , not alot of them mention the salaries , but some do and that will give you an idea as well .

  • Social networking sites like Linkedin work wonders .. why not connect with some of the top people with similar background as yours , residing in the Emirates and ask them about what their company would roughly offer for a manager level or senior level opportunity.

Re: Jobs in UAE

One thing to keep in mind, Middle East and specially the Emirates is an extremely race conscious job market. Unfortunately salaries depend on your nationality and color of your skin ! so yeah, salaries for the same role can differ hence why most companies dont give away their salaries as easily .. so you might have to do your benchmarking cleverly.

Even when the companies like Bayt do the benchmarking, they might do it keeping certain companies in mind , but may not reflect the real salary position .. an Arab , a Westerner, a desi will all be earning different kind of salaries for the same role ...

Re: Jobs in UAE

thats great information!

Re: Jobs in UAE

thanks CB!

Re: Jobs in UAE

how about Desis who are citizens of a western country? what do they get? a desi salary or a western salary?

it's so discriminating [needless to say]!

Re: Jobs in UAE

KFK, up until a decade ago, desi's with US/UK nationality were considered on western salary scales ..

But over the last few years, the influx of desi origin foreign nationality holders has increased immensely and since then I have felt that many asian origin people dont get the similar salaries that their white skin counterparts would be offered. This discrimination has been on the increase since the last five years at least .. alot of my desi british friends went to Dubai and also felt the same ..

Though if you talk to recruitment agents they claim there is no discrimination what so ever , but if you look at any top job adverts , you will see that they are asking for certain nationality holders !

Re: Jobs in UAE

Its a very sad thing though .. this is the main reason i feel i can never work in Dubai again .. never ever :(

Re: Jobs in UAE

Although there is a lot of potential in the ME. Their blatant unfairness on many aspects of life puts me off.

Re: Jobs in UAE

thank you so much for your detailed reply and i really appreciate it. i kinda feel ashamed when i hear this kinda discrimination and the champions of equal rights don't say a word! what a shame! my bro [when he held Indian citizenship] was teaching at Riyadh University and this was THE reason why he left and came to Canada. thank God, he is here and as a result i am here!

i can understand how you feel...it's indeed very sad that Muslims discriminate against Muslims. Muslims are NOT supposed to discriminate against anyone but the realities aren't that way.

the other two major unfairness IMO is the fact that they do NOT grant you citizenship no matter how loyally you serve all your life, no pensions and no benefits. one more unfair practice that bothers me is that you can NOT keep your adult male children in Saudi Arabia and can NOT enroll them in any Saudi universities even if you teach at one of those universities. you have to send your son aither to your home-country or to the west.

Re: Jobs in UAE

unfortunately what cb says is all true... :(

Re: Jobs in UAE

this is exactly the reason I will NEVER EVER work in that stupid place again...I wasted 5yrs of my life there!

Re: Jobs in UAE

Asians with good experience and UK/US passport get good salaries & expat status. So you can try your luck here. I have seen many such asians making really good money.

Try Bayt.com (though never worked for me), Gulf Talent, LinkedIn and Micheal Page UAE.

What are your expertise? We have many many new positions opened for Qatar and Saudi & we are hiring like anything in these two places.
