A question for medical people: How hard would it be to find a position in a medical college in Karachi without any jaan-pehchan yani sifarish? My impression is that one has to have connections to land a job in government or private medical colleges.

Depends on what kind of job you are looking for .And yes just like any job ,in Pakistan sifarish is part & parcel as long as there ae more ppl. than there are jobs.Either no.of Pakistanis were to decrease or the number of jobs were multiplied this demand & supply descripancy is the root cause to make corruption bribery & unscrupulos behaviour & means grow in . :tear2:
Are you planning on teaching specific subjects or becoming a demonstrator?
As far as gov't college go, yes, you need connections. The head of the departments are wives of people in the judicial systems while the appointed teachers are either graduates of the same college or have a relative's sweet presence upon them. Anyhow, it wouldn't hurt to send in your resume to the principal to see how far up the list it goes.
(PS--for Dow Med. (KHI) I can try and check if you give me some specific details.)
For pvt colleges, there are actual advertisements in the newspapers for deans, lecturers, proffs, etc. I would assume, by these ads, that there is some justice done in the pvt sector. For colleges like Aga Khan, Baqai, etc, I would search their websites to see if they've updated recently. (I believe Aga khan's site is regularly updated.)
Thank you :)
I am not in the field but my other half is.
We are looking at the options. Lets see what happens. Seems like we need a sifarish. Thanks again.
