I was wondering if anyone from North America has managed to land a job in Dubai or another middle eastern country. Do you need connections to get a job in Dubai? What if you don’t know anyone in Dubai. How do you go about trying to land a job there? Do they like to hire women with North American education and experience? Your insight is much appreciated. Thanks.

I know teaching English is a very hot profession in the middle east but they prefer people with actual teaching experience/ related degrees. But the pay if very good and from what I recall, housing is taken care of by them as well.

They prefer white teachers even if they're not experienced.

it depends on profession and the need. At times they can directly hire some one from any country if they need some professional badly.

it all depends on luck + chance. i am told that Sept. is the hiring seaosn here, one should be here to have a better chance.

Few important points

Preferance

  • Emirati is always preferred.
  • People from GCC countries come second on priority list.
  • Gora log comes third.
  • Others with gora passport comes fourth
  • indians
  • Others(i have seen few pakistani ex collegues rejected in financial sector due to thier nationalities if any other indian/filipino have same qualification experiance)

To get a Job

  • it is better that you know some one a wasta does plays an important role.
  • Try applying through good headhunters, they can be helpfull but at times they are also biased towards arab nationalism.

Negotaite well but dont try to much as there may be plenty in line and the company may give offer to next suitable candidate.

For abudhabii you need to consider housing and schooling are biggest expense, it is much larger then other emirates.
