Jobs in Canada

Guys, I am trying to help someone find a job in Canada but when I looked online I didn’t even know where to start.

So what are some good websites to find jobs?

Also, in what region should he look at if he is a software engineer? Quick facts about him are: Bachlors & Masters in Computer Science from US. 10 years of industry experience in developing Windows User Mode Device Drivers and Windows Utilities.

Re: Jobs in Canada

Since he has so much experience, he should contact headhunters (look jobs specifically for him - for a fee).

Since he has worked in States, do let him know that the pay scale here for relatively same job is 2 to 3 times less , what he would get paid in States

heared good things about monster.ca

Re: Jobs in Canada

AJ,
Does your friend have a specific location in Canada that he’s scouting?

Overall, with his experience, I’d definitely advise that he engage a reputable head-hunter which caters to practised technology professionals. I’d recommend:

CGI: http://www.cgi.ca/web/en/home.htm

Spherion: http://www.spherion.ca/

and

Robert Half Technology Group: IT Recruiters & Tech Staffing | Robert Half

In terms of online websites, I’ve personally used and also keep hearing good things about JobShark: http://www.jobshark.ca/caeng/index.cfm

Re: Jobs in Canada

Umar Bhai, no he does not have any specific location in mind.

Though I find the suggestions for contacting professional recruiters interesting. Because I always thought that the more experience you have, it is more likely that you can find a job yourself based on your skills, rather than have to go through a recruiter.

Re: Jobs in Canada

^ You need to remember that he's coming from the U.S. and Canadian firms have a mandate to expend their direct efforts on recruitment & selection within Canada. Even though the experience counts a lot, the head hunters can provide a better conduit to get in. I base my suggestions on others from the U.S. who've found jobs in Toronto... in two cases that I know of very closely, going through recruiters was the easiest and smoothest option.

The only firms which are more open to U.S. experienced professionals are management consulting firms like Accenture, Bearing Point, and PWC, and if your friend is interested in exploring these, then they could be directly contacted.
