I have a Maters degree in Chemical Engg. from US and planning to move to Canada due to some visa problems.
Can anyone tell that what are the oppertunities for the Chemical Engineers in Canada.
so no repliesss... anyone????
From what i have heard most of the jobs in Canada related to Chemical Engineering are located in Alberta and Western Canada. Thats where most of the oil and gas comes from in Canada. You might find something useful on these Web sites:
yep, calgary is the place to be when it comes to resource based industries such as oil and gas, BC ranks number 2. I would definitely try calgary area, it's one booming city.

Check the four links at the bottom of this page; they have employment sections on their respective websites:
Thanks for your replies Jal pari, Out law and Nadia H
Does anyone among you has a Chemical Engg. background.
yep im graduating from chemical engg, theres lots of jobs in Alberta... in northern alberta, i.e. Ft.McMurray, they have lots of oil sands projects, companies like suncor and syncrude are the major players... although the quality of life there isnt very good.... Edmonton and Calgary are the two main cities in Alberta... Calgary is where the main corporate headquarters are of all the major oil companies... theres lots of jobs there and also in edmonton... what is ur specialization? dow chemical, bp, shell all have refineries, upgraders etc in the edmonton area...u can PM I can give u lots of more info...
CaliBoy, Sorry no i am not. i am sorry, wish i was able to help you out more.
Original Desi, Sorry if you don't mind my asking, could you elaborate on this statement --> although the quality of life there isnt very good.... In what respects do you believe the quality of life is not good in Edmonton or Calgary ? Just curious, thanks in advance.
Have you tried to get a job with Simplot Canada? They are a private company, dealing with fertilizers. They may not be so advanced like others, but they have lots of employees.
They are associated in Saskatchewan and Manitoba I believe.
But if your a Chem engineer, then Alberta is heaven for you. Check out Medicine Hat, where my friend just got a job at some plant from Simplot.

nadia, i'm not talking about edmonton or calgary... i was referring to ft.mcmurray..... the quality of life isnt good there due to weather conditions... it's extremely cold during the winter... i know its really cold in edm and calg too but its ridiculous sometimes up there... also, companies like syncrude and suncor may require u to live in work camps at some point, so if u have a family it'll be difficult. thats what i mean hope that clears things up
:flower1: :flower1: hey no worries, that clarified it perfectly. Thank you, i appreciate it. Yes you are absolutely right .. Fort McMurray is freezing cold. Infact, it won an ‘award’ for being one of the coldest spots in Canada and for having an average, night-temperature of -21.7 http://www.on.ec.gc.ca/weather/winners/highlights-e.html
Calgary is not too far behind weather-wise. December/January nights can easily go down to -30. ugh ![]()
I have a masters in chemical and process engineering and I tell you what, the field is in a pretty bad situation here in the UK.
I work for a canadian company called woodbridge foam at the moment as a process engineer. They serve the automotive market in injection moulding and they pay loads in canada. Try looking for them. they have plants all over the place and you even get paid for overtime which is cool.
Let me know how u get on
Rizwan its suprising to hear that the field is in a bad shape in UK.
From couple of resources I have heard that there are good oppertunities in Europe.
Also even in US if you are a citizen or have PR there are lot of oppertunities.
Thanks for ur reply and I will check woodbridge foam.
