Guppies, how secure is your current job?
Well secured ;)
There is no security of life itself, how can one secure his/her job.
Just my thoughts!
I work for an ISP. At this moment my job is not very secure, going through company wide redundancies.
See what happens, hopefully I won't be affect but who knows :)

Good point!
Job security has become an outdated concept, it seems. ![]()
Not very secure. :-/
My job is secure, sometime I wish it wasn't so secure, so that I would look further, well anyway I need some advise from experts considering this topic. Today my boss, got stressed about something that involved some misunderstandings concering our project. Althought I was not directly involved in the issue but indirectly coz I am working with the group, he got mad and stared shouting and accusing. I have not seen him like this before. You could image, we were together in one room and all went quiet. I had mixed fleelings, one one hand I got mad at himself myself and replied back sharply cos why should he blame us when we all do our best and work really hard, but on the other hand I said, stay quiet and let him be mad, he is acting unprofessional, so why be like him. I am working with a team of men, I don't know why I am sensitive, where as the colleagues forgat the issue and were themselves again after some time, I was pissed at him.
Well what went wrong? How should one act in such a situation, tell the boss how one really feels, or stay quiet and be diplomatic, I have noticed those who are quiet, they are allways treated in such a manner, those who speak back, they got themselves respect from others.
All in all, do you agree you have to be a ruthless person to survive in the financial world ! Life is tough when you grow up ainit ?
Saadia, indeed it's a jungle out there! The business world is quite ruthless and you must learn to be a ruthless player among the rest of the fish in that sea. This doesn't necessarily mean being nasty to people or being arrogant. Just continue being a lady but firm up a bit.
Re: your work situation and the disgruntled manager...this guy needs to get back on track and start behaving professionally or else his attitude will surely be his ticket through those revolving doors! If you and your team feel quite uncomfortable with his behavior, I suggest you go to your Human Resources dept. and put in a complaint so that the situation is recified immediately. Best of luck!

Moona, thank you for your kind input. Yeah, some times you just have to find your way out of nasty situations. You are fully right, it's really a jungle out there and you know what, that's what makes my job so interesting, I wouldn't want it any other way ! :)
Job security mainly depends on yr own work ethics and attitude towards the job market. If u r in a volatile environment with a lotta layoffs but keep a positive attitude, u should get a job pretty quickly, as compared to those pessimists who think "this job was it and now I'm never gonna find another one". Never think negative.
And Saadia - if u r working with a manager who really doesn't know how to manage his people... it's not worth staying in that type of environment. These things escalate, and seems like no one in yr team really wants to speak up to him; if that's the case, and his behavior is allowed to go unchecked, he'll worsen. That's not good for the team. Seems like u have already started losing respect for him. Besides, if he could act that way and get away with it, it means yr company has a type of corporate culture that nourishes these attitudes and lets them flourish.. beware of becoming a sychopant yourself. There is the risk of punishment from ur superiors if u speak up.. but have to determine what type of culture u are comfortable working in.
Job security doesn't exist this day and age. Its senority and knowledge grants that keep your job. More and more organzations are moving towards contingent workers which is much cheaper than making up plans. Contracts are in, security is out unless you're with the government.
