Job Search in Pak for Foreign Grads

salams

i just returned to pakistan after completing my bachelors in computer science from the usa and am looking for jobs in pak now…based in karachi at the mo…

some guppies asked me to share my experiences of job search with them so i decided to open this thread…others feel free to contribute comment etc…

sadzzz u specifically asked me to provide u info…sorry yaar this is so late…but hope this helps…

anyways, my job search is still at a baby stage :stuck_out_tongue: i am hecka lazy n i just only finished making my resume yesterday lolz lekin i have spoken to some ppl and have gathered some info abt how to go abt it etc which i’ll share here, and hope it’ll help u guyz

u have to first think abt where u want to apply n what kind of job u want to do n what ur aims r…u can also apply everywhere tho n see the responses u get…it also depends on ur area of expertise i guess and ur background n so on and where ur contacts [family, friends etc] r working…

heres some options for fresh grads

  • private multinationals n banks? [all my close friends in karachi work in pvt MNC’s…clean environment, pay well and not too much red tape, they do make u work like cwazy tho paisay pooray wusool kerte haen…] some local unis, IBA in khi and i think LUMS in lhr have lists of the local MNC’s n banks…try to get a hold of those lists…and ask around…and email ur resume to their Human Resrc dept’s…

  • govt jobs? *…plus in ki tankhwahein bhee kam hoti haen usually..i havent given up the idea tho, i’ll keep looking and see if there’s something suitable…some ppl said u have to take the CSS exam for govt jobs…the CSS is in a bad state these days, ppl who took CSS last yr, their results havent even come out etc…] but i think this is a great option if u r up for it…

  • join daddy’s bizniz - if that option is avlbl then y not

  • start ur own biznis? for that yet] but this is a great idea for the future too…

  • teaching? this is a great option if u r the type and this excites u…i am not considering this for now but maybe sometime in the future if i feel like it i’ll take it up…

  • volunteer work? if u dont care abt money, this is great. there r many NGO’s in pak and u can hook up with them and start working…the best one in karachi i think where a lot of foreign grads work is the agha khan foundation…this can be done part time too so thats cool…

  • politix? i’m not from that type of background n neither was i ever into that stuff lol :stuck_out_tongue: but i know some ppl [guys] who go to their villages n get involved in politix…not a bad idea at all if u r into that stuff

general tips:

  • if u have contacts in any places, use them…ask ur friends who r already working to hook u up, get u interviews, forward ur resume, tell u abt job openings etc

  • look at the sunday newspapers [dawn, news] classified ads

  • having a car and being able to drive anywhere anytime is a huge advtg

  • be persistent, and if some place doesnt get back to u, keep checking with them k whats up

hmmmm…i’m sure i’m missing out a lot of stuff…theres tons of options basically…do whatever u want…its pretty much the same as job search anywhere…not much different…

so i’ll keep updating this thread hopefully  and others plz feel free to contribute comment etc as well…

salam*

Do you know if there any accounting jobs in Karachi?

Irem, have you considered becoming an instructor at a good tech college in Karachi, like NED for instance? I am sure, you will be a good instructor (having been a student of your father). Oh, and trust me, we need good instructors, preferably ones who are fresh graduates from excellent instituitions, and plus they would pay you real good too!!!
