Job roles/Co-worker issues/What to do

I have no idea what advice I want but I am gonna rant away anyways and you guys can comment.

So there are two of us tech coordinator type of people. Well there was only suppose to be one but I think she wasn’t very IT so they had to hire me to do their IT work but she takes care of all the admin work. Now, I am a contractor and I would like to either renew my contract with them or get hired on. The other IT coordinator who does the admin work is going on a personal leave and i have heard(my boss hasn’t talked to me yet) that I might be takin on her duties. Offcourse when i applied for this job i was told there would be other duties as assigned so I am sure he is gonna have no problem throwing me in there. But the problem is one, i am working on four different projects right now, three of them databases which are complicated with vb programming which i am having to learn as i am working on them because thats one of the languages i actually dont do. And second, i don’t really want to do admin work. Not that I think i am too good for it or anything but i would be so bored and annoyed all the time. And wouldn’t it be sort of like taking a step back? If i wanted an admin job i would have gotten it a year back. On the other hand, there i snot that much admin work to do. Most of it is in SAP which offcourse could be something that i could later on build on. And there is some changes that you have to email out every now and then. And ship some items. So overall its not that bad and the company is really good and the manager really likes me and he has these cool projects in his head which he might want me working on which means I can’t refuse if I am asked to fill in for her.

On top of that the tech coordinator is paranoid that i have been hired to get her job which is not true, i have been hired to do the things she couldn’t do. She is really sweet and all but refused to train me and holds information that might be helpful for me. Anyways, when my boss hired me he told me this would happen so i can’t really take it to him, he already knows it. Sigh just ranting. I have started to be “freinds” with her but i hate the fact that shes always talking about how she has so much to do and how the boss is a jerk which he is to her but hes really nice to me

So I have this co-worker who thinks i am a guy or something but when he is talking to me and if i say something funny he will start laughing and punch my arm really hard. I bet i have bruises but i don’t know how to tell him to STOP. Did i mention he is a big african guy :o

Re: Job roles/Co-worker issues/What to do

  1. If you take this new role in the absence of this gal do you think your work on the projects you are working on will suffer then bring this fact into your boss's notice and fore warn him.

  2. Show your bruises to this guy I am sure he will be shocked and will stop and will apologize to you. The other thing can be you try to stand out of his reach whenever you are talking to him. And stop kidding around with this guy that will save your skin too.
