It means someone who grades a customer's ability to borrow money. They are primarily responsible for determining what kinds of loans to give and how much. It can be simple retail loans like credit cards, car loans, mortgages on the retail side. Or borrowers ability to repay project loans, mergers and acquistions and international trade on the commercial side.

basiclly i am working with Citibank N.A for last 1 year now..as a Realtionship Officer (Team Leader) having a team of 14 people in Credit Cards.
Now i have this offer from Citibank for a Credit Analyst job..I want to Compare my currrent job with this new offer..?
Any idea's you can put in?

In which department? I would probably take the credit analyst position if it were with the commercial division working with M&As, Fortune 500 or middle market lending teams. I would probably want to speak to the team leader and find out if they encourage credit analysts to do some relationship management and business development too. Some banks have dedicated pools of credit analysts that dont intereact with the customer. That can become boring.

its in the Credit Cards...you dont interact with the customers and stuff..but what i want to know..that is Credit Analyst is a Level higher than a Team leader of Cards???

its not all about credit cards, actually a credit analyst determines the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.. its his job to foresee and make decision on the bases of available financial resources and the expenditures of the borrower and of course his past performance as a brrower. This borrowing canbe anything like mortgage, personal loan, business investment or credit card/overdraft limits.

That is true. Although, I think Xeus was trying to say his job was in the credit card department, as a relationship officer and he had been offered a job as a credit analyst in the same department. He wasnt sure if this would be a promotion and if he should accept the offer. I told him nobody could say without knowing more about the specific responsibilites of an RO. In commercial lending, credit analyst usually reports to ROs who manage the accounts and interface with the customer.
