I hope everyone is doing great. One of my friends has recently received a couple of job offers. I am trying to help him in making a decision but the situation is not that simple.
First offer is from DOD which means if he accepts it, he will be working for them on a project of national importance. He is happy with the compensation and the benefits are just great but he likes to work for the private industry. I hope you got my point.
The other offer is from an ASIC hardware start-up. They are initially offering him a couple of months to work for them and then they will decide whether they want to make him permanent or not.
Please give me some suggestions that will help him in making a decision.
I would go for DoD. Companies like TRW, Raytheon etc have benefitted recently from the contracts they have received from Govt. Future looks good for the time being as far as job security is concerned as Bush is revitalizing the defence industry :D
Depends on how important the permancy of the job to him is. DOD work these days is pretty important, I know a lot of Booz Allen Hamilton consulting jobs are DOD in the DC area. So once he is done here he may have a chance to apply it in the consulting industry.
However if he wants to stay out of the DOD market then he should take the startup job. the experience you gain there is all rounded and great if you want to have your own start up some day.
Thanks Praetextatus, 5Abi, and hmcq for your suggestions. I have suggested that he should go with DOD and work as a consultant for the start up as this company is really interested in him. I don't know if this is too much for him :)
