So I started a new job on monday. Alhumdolillah its a great job but very far away takes me 2 hours door to door each way. So alhumdollilah I got offered another job which is closer but I dont know how to tell my current employer. I feel bad that after a week I am leaving but also scared on how they will take it. Any ideas…
job crisis need advice
Just be open and honest have you recieved the other job offer formally if so you can just hand in your notice but talk to your manager also. It happens. Sometimes the travelling can get abit much, did you know before takingthe job you would have to travel this much?
Re: job crisis need advice
To be honest , you need to be careful in approaching this one. Coz you want to end the job without burning any future bridges with them.
Did they ask you during the interview if you will be ok with the commute? what was your answer?
Depending on your response, you can let the manager know that you are resigning coz the commute is proving to be a major factor and that you are not in a position to move closer to your workplace at the moment. Tell them you really enjoyed the job in the few days that you have been with them and perhaps in the future if situation allows for you to move closer to the area , you will love to offer your services again.
Do not tell them about the job offer you received. They can misunderstand you as job hopper who used them to secure yourself and now getting into another job coz it suits you more. This attitude is seen as a very bad one in the job market so be carefully not to come across as such.
Good luck
Even if you don't tell them about your other offer, if you are in the same industry, or just by updating info on LinkedIn, or common connections they may find out later anyways.
My recommendation will be to say that you had underestimated the impact of commute and it is not sustainable for you, so you have to now focus on getting something closer to you, and hopefully they can bring in other candidates sooner rather than later.

A combination of what CB and X2 said will be a good exit strategy.
