This is an interesting and short demo of some interesting moves. I hope it will inspire some of you to consider taking it up.

I didn't see any Ju Jitsu places but there is a place in Sharjah that does Karate. Speak to the gentleman and he might be able to suggest a place in Dubai if Sharjah is too far for you.

They will be nice to you during your first lesson :)
Re: Jiu Jitsu Demo
Arshad, you mentioned that you practice one of the variations of Jiu Jitsu. How long did it take you from when you first started to reaching where you are right now?
Re: Jiu Jitsu Demo
Well DB, if you are motivated, very fit and have good aptitude then the quickest you can get to a black belt is 3 years. That is except rather than the norm. Otherwise you are probably looking at between 5-10 years. However it does not end at black belt, after the black belt there are the dan grades.
Green is an intermediate belt, at this grade and above you should be fairly proficient in the art. If you took it up tomorrow then I think within 3 years you should be fairly good in it and have a good grasp of the art.
Initially when people start they tend to rely more on brute force and when they become experienced they start using techniques more and start using their brains more. It is a good cardio and also does develop your body and muscles as you practice grappling and throwing opponents.
Re: Jiu Jitsu Demo
Fascinating details all this, Arshad. Thanks for reply. The video you posted, what level of Jiu Jitsu is it, do you reckon?
Re: Jiu Jitsu Demo
The guy in the video Jeremy Corbell is an instructor at University of California in Santa Cruz. He is at least a black belt or 1st Dan.
However not all black belts specialise in all the moves, although they can do all of them, they may specialise or prefer using only certain moves.
Each move takes a few seconds and is gone perfectly but you have to practice hundreds of times each move, before you can perfect it.
In some of those moves within seconds he was at the point of strangling someone or breaking their limbs.
