Jinnah's daughter buys a house in Mumbai

Jinnah’s daughter who used to live in New York has moved to Mumbai to spend her remaining years

MUMBAI: The daughter of Pakistan’s founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah, and mother of textile magnate Nusli Wadia, resides in New York, but her heart is set on the famous house at Malabar Hill where she was born and raised.

Jinnah House, the white colonial mansion, is where the 88-year-old Dina Wadia wants to spend her remaining years. On Tuesday, she moved the Bombay high court to claim possession of the house that her father “completely rebuilt in 1938, taking great personal interest in every aspect of its construction”.

Dina, Jinnah’s only child, had earlier staked claim to the palatial property by filing a writ petition before the HC in 1993, only to withdraw it after the ministry of external affairs opposed it.

She was however given the liberty to move the court again. In the interim, Pakistan staked its claim asking that the bungalow should be the residence of the Pak counsel in Mumbai. Jinnah House has been vacant since 1982 when its last tenant, the British deputy high commissioner moved out.

Re: Jinnah's daughter buys a house in Mumbai

This thread prompted me to look up Dina Wadia on Wikipedia. Turns out that her relationship with Jinnah was highly strained because of her decision to marry a Kafir and stay back in India with him. Her story is very interesting.

The guy she married was Neville Wadia, who was born Parsi but then converted to Christianity. They had a son Nusli Wadia, who was a born Christian but he converted back to Zoroastrianism (Parsi faith).

The Bollywood freaks on here might be interested to know that it is Nusli Wadia's son Ness Wadia (Jinnah's great grand son) who has been dating that Zinta actress for a while.

Yay @ Wikipedia.

Re: Jinnah's daughter buys a house in Mumbai

didnt she always lived in mumbai untill a while ago when she moved abroad?
her and her mother never left mumbai with jinnah and her son and grandson also lives in mumbai. her son owns a big business house in India and recently they foreyed in airlines business too.
Since pakistan is asking for possession of jinnah's house she might be counter claiming it to keep that property in indian hands.
Ideally i think they should make it an museum afterall it is a national monument.

So what? The son of Bejamin Franklin, one of the USA's founders, was vehemently opposed to American independence and served Britain during the Revolutionary War.

When the war was over, rather than live in the country that his father helped make, he moved to Britain instead.

Children are not bound by their parents' political views.

Re: Jinnah's daughter buys a house in Mumbai

^^ Ofcourse they are not, no1 said they are. It's just an interesting fact about Jinnah's daughter that very few Pakistanis know about.

Re: Jinnah's daughter buys a house in Mumbai

Vedic you would be surprised to know how many pakistanis are aware of the relationship between Quaid-e-Azam and his daughter and the fact that she chose to marry a non-muslim despite her fathers disapproval and opted to stay in India instead.

Re: Jinnah's daughter buys a house in Mumbai

^^ You think so? I've read so many articles on Jinnah and heard many discussions amongst Pakistanis regarding his political and family life but never came across any mention of his kafir daughter. But then again, my direct contact with anything Pakistani is very limited.
