I have been recently reading up on the father of Pakistan, this great man who carved out from India a land where Muslims need not fear religious persecution, a monument to Muslim rule of South Asia, and whilst all is good, I have a few questions on the great man’s personal life.
I read, this is widely reported, that Jinnah was a pork eater and drinker. I am not judging him, I dont care if he did, just wondering if its true.
I assume that his line was that Pak was needed for Muslims who wanted to be observant to do so freely, which is pretty much my view of things, but that he himself was less observant.
Q2) His wife was a Parsi?
Again, no care. Just for accuracy of information.
All my “research” (google, yahoo!) seems to suggest A is true, but has nothing on B.
I am a big admirer of Jinnah. He never envisioned Pakistan will be like it is today, ruled by dictators and thugs. He included religious and ethnic minorities at the highest level of his government. His PA was a Jew, and his foreign secretary an Ahmadi.
May Allah :swt: give him a special place in Janat al Firdus. Amen.
Yeah, he did, but he didn’t know that half of that Islamic Republic will only last for 23 years. The new name should be “Half Islamic Republic of Paki.”
the name Islamic Republic of Pakistan was adopted on 23 march 1956. and it wasnt Quaid-e-Azam who named the country Pakistan either, it was proposed by Choudhary Rahmat Ali.

(Choudhary Rahmat Ali) coined the word “Pakistan” for 30 million Muslims who live in the five northern units of India; Punjab, North West Frontier (Afghan) Province, Kashmir, Sindh and Baluchistan.

After assuming charge as Prime Minister, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali along with his team worked day and night to formulate a constitution for Pakistan. His efforts led to the first constitution that was enforced in the country on March 23, 1956. Pakistan’s status as a dominion ended and the country was declared an Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Thereupon the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan became the interim National Assembly and Governor General Iskander Mirza was sworn in as the first President of Pakistan.
legbreakgoogly,
Yes, your findings are true indeed. and i’m glad youve taken the news well. to most of us the revelation that Quaid actually did indulge in drinking and ate pork is a shock that takes time to adjust to. but it isnt that much of a big deal really. it was the man for his strength of character and principles that we do and ought to respect and look up to. whether he prayed, observed fasts etc was his personal matter. he was no maulana and he admitted that. that doesnt make him any less than the man that we are told he was and believe he certainly was!
which book are you reading on him. i’d only reccomend Stanley Wolpert’s ‘Jinnah of Pakistan’ it’s the only true and fair picture of our leader. most others have been biased in one way or another.
His wife Rattie Jinnah was the daughter of a Parsi noble, but she converted to Islam before marriage. his daughter however seems to be hanging in the air.
guys i’m making the thread sticky so to commemorate the Pakistan Day coming up soon. ANY questions about Quaid-e-Azam, his life, career, family, friends, coleagus, habits, achievements, lack or excess of them, can be shared and discussed here.
ask and discuss anything, but keep it sane please and try not to wander in wrong directions!
I’d also love it if you guys could share personal thoughts and /or stories about the Quaid you may have heard from friends family grand parents etc that are narrated from generation to generation and not recorded. also share stuff that you may have read somewhere and want to know more about…
take on guppies! :k:
put life into the memory of the man who promised us smthng BIG on 23 March 1940 and gave it to us in just 7 years.
HZ, Sir Ch. Zafaruallh Khan was Pakistan’s first foreign secretary (an Ahmadi) and his personal assistant was a Jew, who served with him until Jinnah’s death. I will see if I can find some thing in any of the books that I have.
How is that so? Quaid like many in the elite was a shia and it so happened Iran was the first country to recognize Pakistan. Pakistan’s destiny would always be tied to shias and it was meant to be a sanctuary for shias and would remain so. Something along the lines of Israel and Jews…
9 out of 10 times I would agree with you (Just so you know I am a non Practising Shia) But in this case you are way way off, Pakistan was created as a Muslim State, irrespective of Shias or Sunnis.
Yaar pata nahin mai Pakistan Politics mai kahan se aa gaya.
so quaid-e-azam ate pork and drank - i knew he had married a parsi girland i thought that is fine...but i am dissappointed on the pork part more. i mean ok he was in UK and yeah a rangeen aadmi but eating pork? ....i will have to do my research...do u ppl have any links giving the evidence?
I am doing my serach but it seems that the only evidence about jinnah eating pork comes from indian websites and pakistani websites seem to defend Jinnah. I am trying to find a neutral one
