Jinn

I heard from my husband that one of our friends apparently has a gin that follows her around, and I think at one point she was possessed or something, not sure about that part. i didn’t ask for any more details, and I don’t know what else he knows about it.

I’m not too nowledgable about the subject .. but, can stuff like that really happen? I’m not questioning the presence of gin and if they are real, its mentioned in the Quran that they are.

I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced stuff like that? And maybe why would that happen to someone?

she’s Indian btw, if that makes a difference

re: Jinn

I thought the question was gonna be about a gin and tonic problem. Oh well. Anyway, gins are real. They exist. As Muslims, we are supposed to believe in them, because they’re mentioned in the Quran many times. I have heard many times, of people being possessed. It happened to my own mother when she was way younger. Please read up on Surah Gin if you haven’t.

There’s certain things you aren’t meant to do, like not going under old trees wearing fragrance etc. However, in my opinion, your friend’s wife is not possessed, just paranoid and obsessed. She needs to see a psychologist, if this gets worse.

re: Jinn

Yes I know they are real..

I’m just wondering about the “following” part.. she says gin follows her .. now im not sure if this is one gin in particular, or multiple different ones, not sure how one wcould tell the difference though

re: Jinn

Well, then she’ll need a “tonic” for that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Get it? Gin and tonic? What you’re referring to is jinn. The word you used (gin) is actually an alcoholic beverage and also refers to a card game.

As for why that would happen to someone…my guess is that when we become heedless with out ibadat and our adhkar (recitation of 3 Quls) and duas, then it’s like being without a protective shield or weak shield…which then makes it easier for things like nazar/sihr/attacks from jinns to take place. If you think about it, the Prophet SAWS had a dua for everything. Dua to recite when changing clothes, before eating, when entering the bathroom, when entering your home, when leaving your home, etc etc. And these duas entail seeking refuge from the shaitan. So, just the mere fact that there is a dua for practically every aspect of our lives…tells you that shaytani forces exist…provided one has belief in the Quran and sunnah/hadith.

At the same time, it could also be a case of mental illness. There are so many factors to consider…such as the history of the person. Was this girl an otherwise sane person for most of her life? Or does she have a disorder from infancy or maybe that was triggered by a trauma, etc. It’s important to consider all the external factors in your life that could be the reason behind your problems…and your doctor is a good first line of defense…and if need be get the opinion of multiple doctors…before exploring the possibility of it being a roohani malady.

Also, this may make me sound like a jerk…but i’m gonna say it. I understand that we have people of different religious beliefs on this forum. But the predominant religion on the forum is Islam and this particular thread is geared toward Muslims who believe in the existence of jinns as per the Quran. If one does not believe in Islam…then there is really no point in responding to this thread and speaking of the topic in a condescending way and it’s better to just keep out.

re: Jinn

How is her being Indian relevant? Does it matter whether one is Pakistani, Indian, Syrian, Nigerian etc? My knowledge regarding jinns is limited but I’m pretty sure they don’t discriminate based on a person’s ethnicity/nationality.

re: Jinn

I made the mention of her being non Muslim becuase I didnt know if that made a didference in anyhing, as i stated earlier..

And as redvelvet mentioned, things like this sometimes happen to Muslims if they start to waver in their faith.. which makes sense to me

re: Jinn

And yes, i get the gin and tonic reference lol.. i didnt know how to spell “jinn” properly apparently

re: Jinn

There is a big difference between saying that someone is Indian and someone is non-Muslim. I’m sure you are well aware that there are millions of Indians who are Muslims (we actually have some that are part of our GS community here). So if you want to say someone is non-Muslim (or Hindu, Christian whatever), say that. But simply referring to their nationality is confusing/misleading.

re: Jinn

Yeah i get that. Thanks

re: Jinn

a distant relative of mine, was being followed by a Jinn till his death. yeah thats true. it happens to people.

re: Jinn

Okay guys stop crucifying her for the Indian reference. Princess, just keep it in mind next time. If you wanna mention difference in faith, just say non-Muslim. No worries.

re: Jinn

Thanks dubaiwali

re: Jinn

There used to be millions of witches also in Europe and got burnt and crucified until the secular movement and after the secular revolution they all disappeared.

re: Jinn

How old is this woman and how long has she been experiencing this?

re: Jinn

She is 27, and it has been going on for a few years- maybe longer

re: Jinn

My gut response to this would be scizophrenia. Sounds about the age for first onset (in women).

I have a friend with a history of mental illness who claims to have seen similar things in adolescence.

re: Jinn

Yes.

There could be a number of reasons, but for someone to be “stalked” by one, I would suspect either attraction or revenge/anger to be the most likely reasons.

People from a number of cultural/religious backgrounds believe in the existence of paranormal entities. Though from my understanding, Indians (both Muslim and non-Muslim) tend to believe in these kinds of things.

Re: Jinn

love the “Crucifixion” reference here.
Indian.
Non-Muslim.
Crucifixion.

Get it?

:smokin:

Re: Jinn

@Captain_Obvious would you please elaborate on the three things?

PS: long time, que pasa?

Re: Jinn

Been away for a while, but i’m back at least for now. Now to elaborate, here are some common reasons why they might stalk a person:

Attraction - They get attracted to humans and that is why you’ll hear about women being instructed not to wear perfume or leave hair exposed when passing by trees/wooded areas as that can attract their attention.
Anger - it is possible to harm them without even realizing it or if they assume some tangible form (e.g. animal or insect) then they can also be harmed if attacked in this state.
Otherwise, they might do it just for fun–sometimes it is just fun for them to scare people and the more scared people get, the more it encourages them.
