Jinn story mom told us during Isabel power outage

Last night at about 9:30 or so, our neighborhood had a power outage due to the aweful storm passing through as a result of Hurricane Isabel. The men in my family (dad and bro) went to bed at about 10 while my sisters, mom, and I stayed up with lit candles in the family room. Mom prepared herself a cup of tea and settled in to tell us a really spooky true jinn story that her grandmother had told her when she was alive (God rest her soul).

The story goes like this…

Back in the day when cars and motorcyles were uncommon, her grandmother (nani ammi, by the name of Gohar) used to occassionally walk miles between her family village and the small city where she settled after marriage (my parents’ hometown). She would walk to Chakwal for the day to shop and would walk back in the evening and sometimes at night.

One particular time as she was walking following the same usual secluded path back to the village from a long and tiring day, she heard her name being called slowly and almost in a whisper (Goharrrrr Goharrrrr) but repeatedly as if from a distance. She continued walking and soon found a monkey rolling around and doing flip flops in her path. The monkey soon vanished as quickly as it appeared. After a few more yards of walking and reciting the kalma, she found a herd of sheep blocking her path but as she continued to read the kalma, these sheep quickly disappeared also. When she got close to reaching the village, a voice from behind said to her something to the effect “It’s a good thing you didn’t turn around.”

Spooky, right?

:flower2:

Very. I get dead scared when i go back to Pak, so many stories in circulation…:shudder:

Spooky indeed. shudder

My mom also told me a spooky story of when she was young and in school. She said once she wanted to explore this old abandoned school house or building or something like that, and everyone else was too scared to go in it. People talked about it, but nobody would raelly enter it. Mom being the adventurous one decided one day to look inside and see what all the talk was about. She was by herself and started walking the halls, and seeing what was in the rooms. Nobody was in there. However, while on her way out, she suddently heard laughter. Laughter as if coming from a group of people like at a party. It was audible enough for her to hear clearly. Mom looked around but nobody was there. Needless to say , she quickly walked out of there and never entered the place again. spooky

^Yeah especially about airport baggage handlers.

Sweetpie, your mum's got an easy audience.

Munni, that certainly is spooky. My mom also mentioned that her own mom (my nani ammi) used to tell them as kids stories about jinn dominating desserted hindu temples in the area, that sometimes far off screams can he heard coming from these abandoned sites.

 scary scary scary stuff.
BTW, do you think that Italian guy in his late 30s was actually a jinn in his early teens?. He aint so old after all.

I will never go camping after having watched Blair Witch.

More like there arent many creatures you’d admit you are scared of. grin

DD, Blair Witch was a fairytale compared to Wrong Turn (this summer release). If you watch it, you’ll never want to get lost in a dense forest. Trust me!

:crying:

I get scared by mundane stuff these days, not by the supernatural.

The last time I was really scared was during the earthquake they had out here last year and that was only after bits of the building we were staying in fell off.

I don't think I've ever feared for my own life though, I don't think many people do, it's always about those that are with them or may leave behind in distant lands.

Well, regarding jinn they say that if you appear afraid of them, they will try to kill you. However, if you remain steadfast and strong like my great-grandmother did during her encounter with the jinn, they won't bother you again. My mom said that even after that incident, my great-grandmother continued taking the same secluded route to and from the village and apparently the jinn never disturbed her again. I wish I was as fearless of these unknown entities.

Right on T-maan ... here is my 'spooky-story' about mom in law

The story goes like this...

Fast forward to the future when cars and motorcycles were common and donkey carts were uncommon, mother-in-law (she goes around by the name of SAS) used to run marathon quite regularly between her family village (Chicago suburbs) and the huge city malls of Chicago where she settled after marriage and getting her green-card. She would walk to malls for the day to shop and would walk back in the evening and sometimes at night (late nights during the Christmas season when malls are open till mid night)

One particular day as she was shopping using the same credit cards when she heard her name being called loudly and almost yelled out (SASOOO … SASOOO) but repeatedly as if from a disgruntled checkout clerk. She continued shopping and soon found a beanie baby doing Tai Chi carrying a huge price tag in her path. The beanie baby soon vanished as quickly as it appeared. After a few more shops of walking and racking up credit cards, she found a herd of shops blocking her path but as she continued to use the credit cards, these shops quickly disappeared also. When she got close to reaching the Armani-Exchange store, she stopped and left, a voice from behind said to her something to the effect "It's a good thing you stopped shopping when you did, cause if you didn't turn around you would have maxed out your cards."

Snooty, right?

I didnot believe in bhot pareets till a few years ago, now I think there "may be" something, due to some incidents that I cannot explain. I still am not afraid of them though, but i would love to find out for sure. Sp, your nani's quissa is not that scary.
