Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

He has penned a new book called Palestine - Peace Not Apartheid.

My salute to this man who has the courage to speak the truth. He wants to start a debate about the Palestinian aparthed that is completely suppressed/avoided in the states (but not in the rest of the world). He is also doing round on national news shows answering some very tough questions from the likes of Tim Russert etc.

In this new book, he tells it like it is: Israelis are illegaly occupying and continue to confiscate Palestinian land.

God bless Jimmy Carter, he is a true American patriot!

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

wht were his policies n above all his stance / POV / Opinion when he was in office? now he can talk all he wants but he is in no position [influential] to change things as they stand now.so now its all barking n no bite. :halo:

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

He is attempting to start a dialogue and speaking out about the abominable conditions under which Palestinians live.

God bless Jimmy Carter for his bravery. Other american politicians will be too scared to broach the issue due to reprisals from powerful Zionist lobby in America.

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

great and all, but was he this outspoken during his presidency? no i'm really asking, maybe you know since u were alive then..

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

^
ok if you say so.but i'm sure nothing good will come out of it.it will only create a few weak waves n hopes n thats about it.all this HOHA will die down slowly but surely.in a dialogue u need both parties to be at the same level of understanding but do u really see israel accepting palestinian elected government as a partner in talks? almost 75% of the elected ministers are in israeli jails since may this year.thats the level of trust they have for the palestinians.

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

Carter did a lot for peace in the region. I suggest you read this book.

He is a very good man and respected by people from both parties.

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

If Americans know the truth about the abominable conditions imposed upon them by Israelis, they will demand better policies from their politicians. For that to happen, someone has to articulate the facts to the public and not suppress them.

Tim Russert is no slouch and I just saw him interview Carter on this book and he is on the level!

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

its been 50+ years and your telling me that american public is still not aware of the facts n inhumane conditions they live in and that how many people die everything in palestine and who is responsible for that? if they haven't accepted the given facts to this day then wht makes you think carter will be able to change their perceptions / opinions.its not that easy you know.facts are everywhere ONLY if people wants to see them.

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

In a recent poll, many americans thought that eye-rack had WMDs and was responsible for 9/11 attacks.

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

n that thought/opinion still stands true to this day...despite all the failures n bloodshed in eye-raq.if that was not the case then why did they re-elect bush? fact about eyeraQ not having WMD / anything to do with 911 were there long ago but did american public buy any of that? NO....to this day....most still think of eye-raQ as a potential threat to their freedom n security and the likes of some guppies are willing to go as far as giving up their privacy for security.tells u a lot about american way of thinking and handling.

Re: Jimmy Carter: A True Patriot

Jimmy Carter’s book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid is not filled with advice, peace plan or a way to start a dialogue between Israel and Palestinians. It is not about hope or despair rather just simple and some might say naïve way to look at the situation in the Middle East. Question is why would he blame Israel?

1. Criticizing Israel is nothing new and courageous. People and media all over the world love to pounce on Israel and every action she takes. Some deserving, others are one sided and simple blame game. So, writing a book criticizing Israel is not a surprise but Jimmy Carter writing it is.

2. To blame Israel for racism is one-sided because many Arab nations have history filled with abusing the dissent in their country and making lives miserable for people who speak up against their government. Moreover, almost all of the Middle East countries have racist laws, which are mostly “Arab first”. So this argument may not stand.

3. Occupying land is another interesting charge but when you look at Camp David where Yasir Arafat was offered over 90% of West Bank and the deal broke off, some can say that Israel intentions are not primarily to just grab land. In addition, the fence started building when suicide bombing increased and since than the attempts have decreased a lot.

These are the main points of his book as it does not offer any solution and way out for leaders. So what is this book aiming at? I was watching “Christianity in America” Anderson Cooper 360, where it had a report on relations between Jews and Christians in America. Cut to the chase, they showed a convention where Christians were with their Jews friends in a convention filled with evangelicals. On stage, flag of America and Israel and speeches of “Last Days”, the book is specifically for them to re-think their blind support for Israel as she is prone to make big mistakes that may come back to harm America. I think he wrote it to have them in mind otherwise Jimmy Carter is very intellectual with his words.

Would this work? Probably not, the politics and religion, despite the law, is so mixed up that the leaders have to listen to the “Israel first” crowd rather ground realities. Politicians are politicians, they go for vote not matter what it takes. Jimmy Carter may be trying to induce an inner dialogue between the evangelicals and it will only happen when they will decide to do so, but he actually doing something is patriotic move in itself.
