Good thread X2... Kalliyaan was there before I was born, and it continued while I was growing up, despite the fact that Islamabad PTV was notoriously bad when it came to its productions, even at a time when PTV plays were amazing. Most of the credit goes to Farooq Qaiser, however you cannot undermine his loyal team. I got to meet him many times, and he is one of the most amazing celebrities I came across. Even during the Zia era, he found a way to bring political satire and humor in a refined non-offensive manner. Its a pity his show was referred to as 'bachoon ka program' while the ingenious content was aimed for grownups. Babar Niazi and his brother were also integral part of his shows in many ways and they were our classical music teachers at Beaconhouse Islamabad, and were great dedicated musicians who were never fully appreciated. Farooq Qaiser and his team is the most hard working team that has ever set foot on PTV IMO; maybe I am biased because of my close association with them in my wonder years, but I hope Uncle Sargam, Rolla, and all the puppets at Kalliyaan live on forever and continue to put smiles on our faces.

good info, I wish there were more people like this team, thinking about what else they can do. I may be very incorrect due to my limited exposure to Pakistani TV but i feel like majority of the shows are essentially same as one another in the over the top dramas, music shows, and news/opinion shows.
so things like kaliyan, 50-50, studio 2.5, george ka pakistan seem like they break out of the mold, but then again there may be other good current shows that I am just not aware of.
I also hope that hega, sargam, noni pa etc live on and I think that they will.
