I personally think there is an intentional misconstruction or exaggeration taking place … moreso on this thread by the OP than in the news.
If M. Hasan is asking for jihad to be restored - he is asking it to be so in the context of it not being equivalent to “terrorism” and for it not to be done as “zulm” - as far as I am concerned this is correct …
People need to understand that jihad is a whole spectrum of activities that starts by putting ourselves in situations that are compromising our own safety for the sake of justice and protection to others … It does not have to take the form of violence, but may indeed involve taking the brunt of violent behaviour and criticism from others on the chin.
One Shaykh said “Jihad is nothing more than lifting a sword and removing it from the hands of a madman” - which implies once all madmen have been de-sworded one puts their own sword down … lest they become mad in the process.
