LAHORE (Dunya News) – Jamaat Islami (JI) former chief Syed Munawar Hassan on Saturday said that democracy alone can’t solve problems unless culture of ‘Jihad for the sake of God’ and ‘murder for the sake of God’ is promoted, Dunya News reported.
Addressing Jamaat’s gathering in Lahore, Hassan said that the current circumstances warrant promotion of ‘murder for the sake of God’, adding that people are afraid to use these terms openly but, he said, democratic politics alone won’t resolve issues.
He said ‘good politics’ will win and democracy will be effective only as a result of ‘murder for the sake of God’.

and how many Jamaitis left their party after that statement? They are still doing open campaign in every city of Pakistan and people do visit their jalsas. What does this say about Pakistani Muslims who follow jamaat. They are ignorant of such statements? or They don't have any problem with such statements?

and on serious note, for a moment he made me believe that he is different from his predecessors and believe in change through proper system (with all the negotiations etc he was facilitating) but he ended up being new model of same product line of douchebags

traditionally, religious parties have a vast following but that never translated into votes. religion caters solutions to a host of problems while political systems [democracy being the most popular one] is solely revolves around the basics of life like economy, law N order, Education, Healthcare, opportunities for employment etc. it doesn't deal with private issues like spirituality. people seem to be more interested in their worldly affairs than spiritual ones and that's the reason why they do NOT elect religious party candidates who try to push their religious codes on the whole nation.

Let me clear one thing. People don't reject religious parties just because people are materialistic. Hypocrisy of these religious parties and their leaders is also a deciding factor. Who will follow Molana Diesel as his religious leader (in Urban areas. he is still making fool many in rural areas). Same is true for JI. They were against idea of Pakistan. accepted it in between. Enjoyed and supported dictators like Zia and now call for democratic system. These JI walas are the same who are talking of Islamic and welfare system. unko uss waqt kis kutte ne kata tha jab unki badr o shams Bengali Musalmnao per qehar bun kar tooti thi?

I think you missed OP’s point that JI’s leader had given refuge to AlQaida people in past. You can ask for examples from OP. Where did he say that all Pakistanis support Munawwar Hussain. Not all Pakistanis, but a sizable number support JI even after these statements. Remember their million marches and now this 3 days ijtimaa in Lahore. you might have seen crowd attending these ijtimaat in today’s newspapers. I was surprised to see that they gave a picture of JI ijtimaa in Lahore in today’s Ummat, but I couldn’t see IK’s jalsa picture or news on Ummat’s front page (though they had in headlines rumor about IK married to a Hazara anchor)

People just can't leave this political party because they joined it for religious reasons and leaving it would be like blasphemy. And that is why the whole cannot criticise Muslims or Pakistanis pov is wrong because it kills debate and other point of views and leaves people who are less knowledgeable about religion thinking if there's an Islam tag with it then it must be right.

There's a reason why he was removed from JI's leadership. He and his sons arent so famous in Khi because of all these stupid things. So I dont think anybody cares what he says.

I don’t think it demonstrates in any way that muslims are bringing bad name to Islam. if anything, it just shows the lawlessness in Pakistan…there are no laws against banning hateful and jihadi remarks like these.
