LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has reiterated his invitation to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement leadership for forging a grand alliance of political parties to intensify pressure on the PPP-led government to hold timely and fair elections and rid the country of bad governance.
He was addressing a joint press conference at Mansoora along with a delegation of the MQM, led by Dr Farooq Sattar, which called on the JI leadership on Tuesday in connection with the party leaders’ drive to meet various political parties to evolve a consensus agenda regarding holding timely election, movement of US warships in Pakistani coastal areas, worsening loadshedding, economic situation and law and order situation in Karachi. The delegation also included Raza Haroon, Wa’se Jalil and Iftikhar Randhawa. JI Naib Ameer Dr Muhammad Kamal, JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch and other leaders were also present.
Munawar stressed that a grand alliance was essential to pressurise the government for setting up an interim government and holding timely elections in a free, fair and impartial manner on the basis of transparent electoral rolls under an independent Election Commission. He said he had already invited Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan and PML-N leader Shahbaz Sharif to join the grand alliance.
MQM has proved it time and again that when it comes to power politics, it cannot be trusted upon. JI’s own electoral muscles have not had any action for a long time and their politics is quite laid-back and does not seem to be ready for action anytime soon. I do not see anything substantial coming out of such a move.
On Serious note:
Nothing will happen. Everyone will keep working on same pay. MQM, PPP, ANP everyone need some unrest in Karachi to keep their votes intact.

Actually, no one wants insecurity and terrorism. If MQM and PPP wanted violence and killings to continue then they wouldn't be talking with each other about local body setup and other things.
Pashtun people also want peace because most of them are poor laborers working on daily wages. Insecurity in the city would take away their livelihood. This is why ANP wouldn't want violence either.
I think the reason there is violence among supporters of these parties is the lack of trust among them. This lack of trust originates from not talking to each other when problems arise.
And in this respect, it is a good initiative on the part of MQM to take the first step for starting a conversation.
I don't know what will happen in the future but at this moment this looks like a good development for the city, which should be appreciated instead of ridiculing.
