“Chao Qi”, China’s new generation fighter and the first of its kind of the nation’s own intellectual property rights, completed its taxiing test Tuesday at a test ground of Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Corporation (CAC).
At 5 pm the first “Chao Qi” produced by CAC was pulled by a special tractor truck into the test ground, and a pilot mounted when the plane stopped steadily before the starting line. The engine was started and the plane taxied along the runway for some 700 meters at a speed of 30km per hour. Then it continued to glide for another 300 meters after a successful turn. A second test was conducted and both of them lasted 30 minutes.
As one of the eight major ground tests that must be completed before test flight, the taxiing test is aimed at trying the correctness of the design of electricity supply system, as well as signal connections between the electricity supply system and other external systems so as to provide important data to guarantee a successful first fly.
The success of the taxiing test has proved that all related index of the plane live up to designed standards and the first trial fly is sure to take place at the end of this month.

Super-7 test flight termed successful
BEIJING, Sept 3: Super-7 (JF-17) fighter aircraft, a joint venture of Pakistan and China, was successfully tested in Sichuan province, said Chinese sources on Wednesday.
"We have developed an advanced, multipurpose light fighter plane to meet the needs of overseas customers," the sources said. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat, attended the launching ceremony.
The maiden flight of Xiaolong/FC-1, or fierce dragon, from Wenjiang airport in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, proved successful, the state-run Chinese news agency XINHUA reported.
The plane demonstrated its outstanding mobility, good interception and ground attack capability, said the report, adding that it had comprehensive combat capability of a third generation fighter plane and was at par with the world's most advanced fighter planes.
The report said the plane, small in size and low in cost, was suitable for modern warfare. It took about four years for Chengdu Aircraft Group Corp, in cooperation with China Aero Technology Import and Export Co., to develop the plane, it said.-APP

Not to rain on your parade, but the J-10 is NOT a joint pak-chinese venture. It is solely a chinese venture. The PAF hasnt even expressed any interest in the J-10 yet because it is looking at a western solution for its top of the line fighter.
^^ My friend who was an F-16 pilot back in pakistan was associated with this project…
After the Pressler amendment and millions of dollars taken by the US government, the Chinese gave Pakistan an offer…They said give us an F-16 and we’ll help develop a fighter plane that’s as good as if not better than the F-16…
Pissed off at American deceit the Pakistani government sent a lone F-16 plane secretly to China and about 3 or 4 years ago and at about 2 am an F-16 took off from Pakistan towards China…
The result is the Jian-10 fighter which also includes some Israeli Lavi equipment as well…
The J-10 will InshAllah be in the hands of PAF by the year 2005…

I've heard the F-16 story many times, but there still isn't a single piece of actual docemented proof that its true. Its always hearsay. I wouldnt be surprised though if the PAF did provide an F-16 for performance benchmarking. But bearing in mind that the PAF has never been officially interested in the J-10, and the extremely small numbers of F-16s it possesses, it seems unlikely they would let the chinese take one airframe for a long term loan, in order to take it apart and study the technology.
As for the J-10 being in the PAF by 2005 i would be highly suprised if this were to happen for a number of reasons. Firstly, the PAF has never officially expressed any interest in the J-10. It has always been after the FC-1.
Secondly, with the huge numbers of J-10 the chinese require for their own airforce, I'd be suprised if they were willing to export the plane by 2005. The PLAAF desperately needs new fighters, so 2008-2010 is a more realistic timeframe for them exporting it. Also bear in mind that at the moment it uses licence built AL-31F engines. Do you know if their licence permits them to export that engine? If not, then they would have to wait till their own indiginous engine is ready before they could export the J-10.
Thirdly, it would be extremely risky for the PAF to rely on 2 totally new and untested designs, which is why i believe they will still look to a Western plane to be their top of the line fighter (i.e. Rafale, Mirage 2000-9, or Grippen). Although the Rafale, Grippen et al are also brand new designs, their manufacturers have over 40 years experience of building high tech fighters, while in that time the best planes the chinese have produced have been knock offs of other countries designs. Their own indeginous design have always been dissappointing up till now (FBC-1 and J-8). However, if it proves impossible to acquire a 4th gen fighter from the West, only then, i believe, would the PAF look at the J-10 with a different avionics suite.
