Washington: The new Congress, which will be the first to have a Muslim member, has also seen the number of its Jewish members go up.
This is good news for Israel, which receives unstinted support without reservations from Jewish members, as from most non-Jewish ones. The greatest fear of any American politician is to be called “anti-Semitic”. The number of Jewish senators has risen from 11 to 13 and that of Jewish representatives from 24 to 30, which is an all-time high of Jewish politicians in Congress. The two new Jewish senators are Benjamin Cardin (Democrat of Maryland) and Bernard Sanders (Independent from Vermont).
Both Sander and Cardin were members of the House of Representatives, but their departure did not diminish the number of Jewish lawmakers as more of them came in.
The six new Jewish House members, all Democrats, are: Gabrielle Giffords (Arizona), **Ronald Klein **(Florida), **John Yarmuth **(Kentucky), Paul Hodes (New Hampshire), **Stephen Cohen **(Tennessee), and Steve Kagen (Wisconsin). khalid hasan
