Question:
How does Islam see the Jews. I am sure you are aware of many negatives view on them. Are these valid?

Reply:
The Qur’an has mentioned Jews positively as well as negatively.
As far as the positive aspect is concerned, the Qur’an acknowledges the religion of Jews as a Divine religion and their books as revealed books. According to the Qur’an, Muslim men can marry their women and Muslims can eat their food. The Qur’an gives them the special status of Ahl-e-Kitab who can live under an Islamic regime.
Negatively, the Qur’an mentions their crimes, such as changing the books of God in letter and spirit, killing the Prophets of God, ungratefulness towards God despite his blessings and the privileges He had bestowed upon them and their arrogant behavior in accepting the truth. In short, the Qur’an acknowledges their good aspects as good and bad aspects as bad, and does not show any prejudice towards them, but reveals the true picture.
As far as the position of the Jews in the hereafter is concerned, it is completely dependent on their behavior in the life of this world. Like all other human beings, if they are honest in their search for the truth and live their lives accordingly, they shall then deserve the eternal bliss of the life hereafter. On the other hand, if they show aversion to the truth and try to avoid it, they shall then deserve to face the wrath of the Almighty. It should, however, remain clear that the Qur’an has only addressed and declared the doom of the Jews that lived in the time and place of the Prophet (pbuh). These were the Jews on whom, according to the absolute knowledge of God, it had become obvious that Mohammad (pbuh) is a true prophet and messenger of God and therefore their rejection of Islam qualified them for the punishment of hellfire.
As far as the current hatred between Muslims is concerned, that is primarily because of the conflict of Palestine. Otherwise, throughout the course of history Muslims and Jews generally had good relationship. In fact, the Jews enjoyed full freedom and security under various Muslim regimes especially in Muslim Spain.

I would appreciate if you would kindly specify the particular “negative view” that you would like our opinion on so that a precise answer could be given.
I hope this explanation answers your question. You can always get back if you are still unclear.
May Allah guide us all towards the right path.

I hope you found the above information interesting. Recently I have come across so many people here where I am talking about Jews like as if they are the scum of the earth. I do get worried that these statements are simply said out of emotional hot air. But that is not an excuse for saying such inflammatory things in the first place. It is important to derive the correct context in which the Qur’an views these groups of people. Certainly I would agree with the above response in full. Certainly I do not think that for one moment that all Jews should be painted with the same brush. What may be true for one or a few individuals may not be necessarily true for the group as a whole.
