About a month or so ago we received a brochure in the mail with lots of pics and prices for jewelry. I had been planning to go there for a while, but now I can’t remember the name of the shop. I think it was either in Arlington, Falls Church, or maybe Alexandria. It had a long traditional Indian name. If anyone received that brochure and knows what place I’m talking about, please let me know.
Are there any good desi jewelry shops in this area that you would recommend?
Also, are their prices usually fixed or is there room for bargaining. How much percent are they usually willing to take off? Let’s say if the asking price is $500 for a ring, how much do you think I should have them bring it down to to make it a good deal? I don’t like bargaining, but I don’t want to look stupid and pay full price when I shouldn’t have.
One more thing…do they have rings in stock for all sizes or do they resize it when you pick one? Also, can I buy a ring…take it home…and then bring it back to get it resized?
I have no idea about the shop u r inquiring about. I have gotten brochures too but just don;t remember the name. The prices on those brochures seem reasonable though as compared to what I have seen at some of the shops. My mum has bought jewelry from bombay jewellers and sonia’s both in springfield. Sonia’s is the more expensive one of the two. Actually I find all jewelry stores expensive here. My dad knew the guy at sonia’s so he gave a bit of a discount, but im sure he still made a grand profit. Once we went to sonia’s and they were offering some 10-15% off. Even after the discount their price ws more than what bombay quoted. Just shop around to get an idea of the price to make sure u aren;t buying it from the most expensive jeweller in town.
As for the rings, they may have a range of sizes but maybe not for the same ring. They’ll have a case of large rings, a case of medium and small each with different designs. They usually just carry 2-3 of items of the same design. I don;t think taking a ring home and bringing it back for resizing should be a problem. You could also take the size with you to make sure u r getting the correct one. I have heard of getting rings enlarged but I don;t know if getting them shrunk is an option
I've been to one in Springfield a while back with my wife...again, don't remember the name, but it was owned by some very friendly Sikh family. It was at a strip mall (off of 6100) and there was Pizza Hut there. They seemed to have a lot of variety, so maybe I'll check them out.
I will try to find out about the place I'm looking for because there were couple of things she liked in there, so it would be easy to just buy those knowing that she will like it. Plus, it all seemed very classy compared to cheap looking stuff found at most desi jewelry stores. But that can be because of models who were wearing them.
