jewellery after the wedding...

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

i guess some things just have sentimental values attached to it....
my MIL gave me some jewelery when i got married...i wore it once or twice ,but to be honest i just don't like it...so when i went to Pakistan a few yrs ago i took it with me so that i can exchange it for something else...
but then i came to know that those pieces were my MIL's(which i did not know before) and she gave something to all 4 of her DIL's...
It was my MIL's first gift to me,sth she had owned herself...i just couldn't bring myself to exchange it..i still have it locked up in my jewellery box,and i hardly ever wear it...and i don't mind it a bit...:)

people have had bad experiences...agreed...
but seriously there are some great jewelers in Lahore, who really sell what they say...:)

my mil WORE some of my shaadi set when she bought it bck for me.

Re: jewellery after the wedding…

:omg:

before your wedding??!!!

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

Always keep your jewelry in your handbag.... atleast all the real jewelry...

I don’t think there is anything wrong about it… lot of people do it so they don’t have to hassle with the paperwork especially at pakistan airport, sometimes the custom people in pakistan drive you nuts. Once you take off from pakistan, it is not that big of a deal…

yep, i always carried my jewellery in my hand bag...
since set boxes take so much space, i took the jewellery out of the boxes and put it in little plastic ziplock/sandwitch type bags, and stored those bags carefully in my hand bag/purse... I have never had any problems this way...

you have to be careful though when storing it in your hand bag, so that you don't bend/break any jewellery (if its taken out of boxes), so wrap like each set in small pieces of bubble wrap and then put it in the tiny ziplock...and then store in handbag carefully in a way that its not pushing bumping against lots of other things in your purse...

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

lusi, ohhh while she was bringing it back, i thought to someone's party or something.

amnaar, thats a really good idea!

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

Just make sure you 'declare' your jewelry on papers that you're taking. Amount, how much its worth etc. If you don't declare it to the airlines, when you come back to Pakistan with the jewelry, they will think you bought it from the US and they will tax you on it. Call you airline, get the details on how to declare you valuable assets and get it done to be safe and to save you money.

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

I agree with everyone else...keep it in your handbag! I've even had a mobile phone stolen from my luggage in Pakistan...i'm not sure how how they got in, but they took it!

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

When you're traveling by PIA, MANY such mishaps happen. Someone had attempted to cut open my cousin's suitcase with knife/scissors or something and had taken some stuff.

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

I have also always used a handbag for this purpose..

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

i wore all my jewlery i mean neckleces under my shirt n bangles also wid warm dress(it was winter also),,,small things like chains,,rings ect i mixed it wid sme artificial jewlery n some in my hand bag.but thank god i was nt caught for checking my hand bag.its just a chance to hv bad luck wen anybody has to pay tax over gold otherwise mostly ladies remain secure...

o man u have no idea how i was freaking out when my wedding stuff was supposed to come from pak... but my dad had the suitcases like wrapped in plastic at the airport fr a coupla hundred rupees so all was good :@:

But don't you have to take all the jewelry, etc off while passing through the security/metal detector?

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

yes she is so sweet she hd to wer some of it you know nd its not jher job to bring it back but sincei plced the order i had left pakistan and when she went a fewm onths later she bought it all back for me

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

we just put ours in the bags....i think that is the safest option.

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

And yes i guess its safe to carry jewel in ur handbag... but then im sure ur bag must b with you, such a big responsibility it is!

Re: jewellery after the wedding...

Just be very cautious with your bag. My cousin's was stolen at some point in an airport.
