Re: Jesus and divorced women
In traditional Catholic beliefs, divorce is forbidden. You could remarry but it wouldn't be valid according to the church, only teh state. If two people wished to separate, they could get an anullment which would say that the marriage never existed and nver happened. If one's spouse died and they remarried, I beleive that was accepted by the church, though I'm not sure. I'm sure minah could shed more light on this :)
Re: Jesus and divorced women
In Christianity remarriage after one of the spouses died is always permitted by all denominations.
Divorce are not allowed (or at least frown upon) by various denominations while others accept divorce as being normal. Most Protestant and other denominations accept remarriage after divorce as well.
The Roman Catholic church only recognise a marriage when it was performed in the church. They also do nor recognise any other way of ending such a marriage except by the church. A marriage can be declared to be "null" or invalid from the beginning if it is discovered that the couple was not truly married and these people may marry again since they never were married in the first place. People also are allowed under certain situations to leave each other and live separately but they remain married and can't remarry again.
I know Christian denominations that allow their people to marry and divorce at will with no consequences. All depends how close the leaders/pastors/scholars want to keep to what the Bible teach.
