Did any one watch the PBS documentary “Jerusalem: Center of the World,” last night?
It was really interesting to see the history of the city. I hope they repeat it so I can DVR it.

Yes, but he have to wear a cap i think for entering the Jewish places !
Jerusalem today is a mere shell (an overcrowded one at that) of what it used to be.
Yes i have heard it's going to be the source of the end of the world.
But it's a very pretty city. The Dome of the rock is not the al Aksa Masjid by the way, that is a separate and all the more grander place. The dome was built much later. Al Aksa still stood when i went there and i still know it stands today though the best time to go there is on Friday.
The Jews and Muslims actually pray at some shrines opposite each other divided by a wall. They move around it at intervals with guards/soldiers keeping the two sides separate.
The church of the sepulcre is open to anybody but fights break out there too between rival factions.
The walls of Jerusalem are very old, the Ottoman wall is the one that we see today but some parts of the Herodian and Hellenistic wall also remain in places although they are a bit dillapidated.
Strangely the Roman built anopea fort/castle still looms over the old quarter near the centre overlooking temple mount. I'd have thought the Isrealis would have demolished that first, but somehow the Roman walls still stand while most of the Judean sections are ruined?
My stay was only short and marred by the presence of too many Isreali soldiers i kept having to be searched and if it wasn't for the fact that i'm taller than most folks they would probably have made to beat me up....... They do it often to lone travellers who look East Asian or Arab, corruption it seems exhists everywhere.
Also be wary ofthe tight streets i felt very paranoid whilst walking there becuase some of the poorer areas are so badly lit you cannot help but fear a blade or bullet.
